How do people feel about "interviews" to join a DM game?

As the topic says, I have been seeing a growing number of "interviews" to join my game or "I want these specific X qualities in my players" else you can't play flat out. Personally I don't find this very appealing to even attempt to try and join into... I DM mostly and rarely play as a player but when I do consider it, I just get turned off by these kind of requirements... Sitting around a table to play a game should be a fun sit down thing, not a job hunt really. I can understand the arguments for it, DMs want very specific qualities in their players etc. You wouldn't really know that till you play with them though... Personally I have played with at least 20+ people on Roll20, a whole number of them I played blindly with, without interviews or pre-knowledge. I admit that maybe 4 of them give or take were just not suitable in my games, but this was due to very extreme things like non-stop references to everything profane and just trying to be as shocking as possible, or just clearly having a language barrier problem and could not understand what was going on. This is all opinion though.
