Area of Effect aka AoE

Is there a way for players to use AoE's without me(the GM) having to do it for them. I guess I could also give them control of the map, but I was looking for other methods. I was also thinking of premade templates. If anyone has any ideas I am all ears.

Last campaign I GMed, one of my players told me in advanced that they had a spell that required a cone template. I went ahead and made a translucent PNG template and uploaded it into my art library. When it came time for the spell to go off, I brought the template in on the token layer. For player control AOE, just get a heads up from your players of what templates you'll need to prepare beforehand and stash them away on a Page with permissions assigned to all players. When you need them, just copy and paste them to whatever Page your players are currently on. Token properties carry over when you copy and paste.
Being able to create our own plug ins / scripts the would work natively with Roll20 would be a super way to do this. And for those of you who are not tech/web savvy , I am sure that if the Roll20 team gave us this type of freedom with the system that lots of people would create plug-ins/ scripts to put up in the market place. otherwise, Kristin's method seams the easiest
As of right now I told my players to use the draw while holding shift to lock the boxes into the grid. It is not perfect but it works for now.
