Just checking to see if there is interest in using the 40KRPG ruleset to build a technologically advancing campaign. Players would need to fight against a superior enemy and likely roll multiple quick and dirty characters. I expect a good chunk of them will be maimed or killed in the early parts of the campaign. Over time the group would be able to collect materials and alien weapons technology to research higher tiers of equipment. At the start the humans would start with basic low level gear autoguns, auto pistols, lether armors, medkits and some sort of sub orbital V-TOL craft As they fight enemies they will collect resources and be able to use them to develop new technologies and craft higher tier weapons, ammunition, armors and accessories. Eventually unlocking psyker powers, sorcery, cybernetics, power armor and plasma weapons at the highest tier. Then constructing an inter-solar vessel to confront the leaders of the alien races. Unlike X-com the game the campaign would not simply be going from tactical fight to tactical fight. While occasionally mission in which attacks occur and the agents would be dispatched the core focus will be a more x-files like investigation to find the aliens first, Basically it would flow: rumors of alien activity > investigation > evaluation > (combat if required) > collection of artifacts/materials/tech > debriefing > research/construction from materials > repeat Occasionally events would occur which would force the team to choose between abandoning the current objective to defend the population or take penalties to funding and political pressures. Too much focus on advancement while sacrificing the human race will result in the government shutting down and funding stopping gradually dismantling your organization. However too much focus on the protection of civilians and your likely to fall behind on tech and get defeated by stronger and stronger enemy combatants. Depending on how the campaign goes I may add in defections from either side, corrupt government organizations stealing funding or materials, infiltration, fatigue and psycological disorders.
