Using Assets From Module

Hey, I'm really new here and I can't figure this out, I wanted to set up the maps from the Emerald Spire adventure for Pathfinder? It comes with great maps to run everything in the PDF but I can't really figure out how to take them out of there and use them in the game.

Hi Sam. You can import PDF's into the image section of a Handout. Unfortunately, you can only import 1 page of the PDF at a time, and each page will have to be on a separate Handout. You can link handouts together by including the handout's name within single brackets [Foo], you could create a "table of contents" handout that links to each page. Not exactly efficient. You may be able to export(or extract images from your PDF) and import them as images to your library. You might also be able to copy text from the PDF and paste it into a Handout or other text area such as the GM notes or Journal Bio. Screen shots may be another option to create images for import as well. I usually keep a PDF open outside of roll20 for reference and only import maps or important images as needed.

I think he wants to use his maps as maps. Extracting maps out of a PDF generally means tinkering with zoom levels to get the clearest image possible and then using your PDF viewer's 'copy' or 'clipboard' or similar function to get the image onto your clipboard. Then you need to go to an image program, paint at bare minimum, and paste the image and save it. You can then import THAT into Roll20. The easiest way to use a map from a pdf you purchased/own is to open it in the image program itself. I use gimp and all you need to do is start the program up, click file in the menu (first button), then open which will open you an explorer type menu to allow you to find your file. When you click on the pdf it will ask you what you want done with it. Input your page number (it should show it in the preview image) and select as image. It extracts that page as an image then and there. Now you can do your edits on it as you like and either export it as a jpg or png, or save it as a gimp file to work on later. Now you are ready to upload your map image (the jpg or png) to roll20. There is a guide to adjusting the map grids to roll20 grids as genkitty mentions. Good luck and have fun.
