Character fleshing out

Feel free to flesh out characters in here. If there's suggestions/things you left out, speak up =P Your brutal evil friendly GM JP

Hey guys, Jann isn't going to be the biggest fan of killing so his spell load out will be more geared towards support and utility. Just thought I'd mention that. Also, Nicholas, do you mind telling me which cantrips you plan to take? I'm doing my best to avoid spells shared with the bard class to avoid stepping on any toes. (Jann's minor illusion is racial, but the others are variable.)

Vorgash is going 'Way of the Berserker' and is really angry all the time about everything. Like REALLY angry. Sometimes he doesn't even know why he's angry but he can't help his emotions y'know? They sometimes get the better of him and he just gets REALLY REALLY mad and wants to BREAK SHIT. He uses a greatsword that's actually more of a giant butcher's knife. He's also a half-orc and he gets TRIGGERED from BUZZ WORDS. Like HALF-BREED or GREENSKIN or BEASTSPAWN or STUPID SHITTY HALF-ORC. He's cool like that. Also he has MASSIVE PECS and BICEPS and TRICEPS and ABS and DELTOIDS and GLUTEUS MAXIMUS and he has large VASTUS SYSTEM because he never skips LEG DAY. He also has a huge, enormous, throbbing TRAPEZIUS. HE IS A BIG GUY. FOR YOOOOOUUUUU.

Just saying: Cassandra is designed to pin people down and keep them down. But she has +4 DEX, which makes her still useful for wielding Finesse weapons. Even though Meta is an asshole and might just pin all of you down, she can still do Rogue damage minus the sneak attack bonus. And yes it's an electric guitar. Also, DM, can we have our character sheets?

I don't know if he's going through with it, but I'm mildly concerned with the Beholder of our party; just my opinion. Tyketh is a Protection Paladin, so his primary goal is going to be to protect his friends. Likely, if given the choice between saving a friend and killing the BBEG once and for all lest he get away, he'll save his friend. In short... Casters love him.

Lucius was once a normal adventurer like you, until he shot a bear in the knee. That bear belonged to someone great and powerful, or so the demented ranger once said. But spinning tales is somewhat of a theme with him so know one really has any idea what really messed him up. There are only two things that are certain about him, he hates animals and loves the viol.

Ok, in regards to the Beholder, I am making a few rules so this doesn't get TOO crazy 1. Size is limited to that of a beach ball. Any larger and it's too big to go anywhere 2. All his spells are nerfed to 1d12 or less until a level cap is reached. We don't want to one shot most enemies we see. That's too easy 3. In terms of....floatyness, air height is limited to 15ft up. Any higher, and he becomes target to all enemies and is regarded as hostile to NPC. So no, you do not "Float over the city wall" 4. NPC Beholders are not bound by rules 1 and 2. They are still very dangerous and will eat you with lasers. Don't ask how that works

Like fear, stun, etc. Basically XD although the same rules apply to other big bosses turned players (like dragons) Also the d12 max has 3 sub rules 1. This doesn't include modifiers, so a 12 can still hit for higher 2. It applies to single spells 3. 12 is a max, so 2d6, 3d4 ect are also acceptable

Just to clear a few things up, the beholder is being heavily nerfed, my beholder won't have the anti magic field, won't have it's melee attack, won't have any of it's eye rays, and only has level 1 warlock health. You can basically think of it as a regular level one warlock of a different race that just happens to have rolled some nice stats and looks and acts like an insane beholder. I may decide to gradually get those things back as it levels up but things like the anti magic field wouldn't come into play until at least level 17. The size of a large beach-ball works for me, it'll let me fit through doors. Now I just need to figure out how it ended up so small. As to the spectator, I actually considered that. It would fit pretty well given their natural insanity but I just wanted to play a full on beholder driven mad, the idea appeals to me. If everyone objects there' still plenty of time to switch to something else, the beholder idea was only one of a few I had. I wanted to play a monster so I just started flipping through the monster manual looking for ideas.

Truth be told the only problem I have with the behold is that it has the STATS of a cr13 monster. Like ridiculously high stats in everything.

hmm, the stats in the manual are Str: 10 Dex: 14 Con: 18 int: 17 Wis: 15 Cha: 17 It's good but if someone was rolling for stats they could end up just as high, still I could easily say that the insanity knocked off some of it's int and wis and bring it down to Str: 10 Dex: 14 Con: 18 int: 9 Wis: 10 Cha: 17 or something like that, if it's a sticking point.

Fair enough, it looks. Might want to switch around the Cha and Con scores if you're into Min/Maxing (a bit like me D:) Just don't expect yourself to pass any INT saves.

I get all that, and from a gameplay side it's fair, but the idea of a Beholder just hum dee dum going to the inn and talking with the locals is just hard to manage.

Maybe the Beholder minor illusions itself.

@Max: You don't have to change the stats if you don't want Max. We need a pixie as our tank and a giant as our healer. XD

I'm the pixie, but with 5 hp I'm not doing any tanking. Even my corpse would be too tiny to be used effectivly to deflect attacks. We do have a goliath as our rouge though...

Our goliath should do the infamous Barbarian Rogue.

I could always be a Flumph instead of a beholder. That would actually probably be easier to roleplay and successfully intagrate into the party.

Guys, quick question. In 3.5 big creatures had bigger max loads and bullrushes ect, and small ones got bonuses to ac. Is there anything like that in 5e or is that just reflected by the stats?

The "bull rush" thing is replaced by a feat called Charger, and big creatures naturally have big strength so they carry more.

So size IS meant to be reflected by stats. Looking at the pixie in the monster manual, that makes sense. Okay, so based on the shrink spell, the pixie's stats in the monster manual , and the old 3.5 size modifiers does this sound good? Jann size=tiny/diminutive: -4str disadvantage on str checks +4dex weapon damage is reduced by 1d4 (including with range and finesse weapons) disadvantage with two hand weapons. stealth proficiency cannot grapple or shove any creature larger than tiny. Any penalty a small creatures has. How does that look to you guys fair? Too kind? Too harsh?

I think I would replace the +4 Dex with a +2 to AC and advantage on Dex checks. The dexterity bonus is too encompassing. If you're small, that doesn't necessarily mean that you're good with a bow or throwing knives. Similarly, I would change proficiency with Stealth to advantage. As a tiny creature you're good at stealthing naturally because of your size; not necessarily trained or proficient. Modifier list could be something like this: -4 STR +2 AC Advantage on Stealth Checks Disadvantage on all Strength checks Disadvantage on Melee weapon attacks Cannot grapple or shove any creature small or bigger Weapon damage reduced by one level (1d6 to 1d4, 1d10 to 1d8, etc)

I'm okay with switching +4 dex for +2ac and advantage with dex checks if the GM is. Though if you're worried about range attacks we could always cut the range of any ranged weapon Jann wields in half. (Unless he is aiming a full sized cannon or something) And yeah, I agree with you on the stealth thing, but +4 dex and advantage woulda been crazy. There are just two things: Do you think Jann should get disadvantage on str saving throws and advantage on dex saves? Or maybe a static +2 and -2 to the respective scores? Why disadvantage on melee weapon attacks? I can't imagine a tiny creature would have any trouble getting through to hit someone. Making it actually hurt would probably be the tricky part.

Give a smaller pixie more options for cover or something, that would make a bit more sense. Even quarter cover gives a decent +2 AC.

Cool and the best part about advantage is that if there is ever a dex check where being super small and light wouldn't help we can just ignore the advantage. For example, being small may help Jann nab something unnoticed, but its not gonna make stacking a deck while shuffling cards any easier unless maybe if the deck is just so small its hard for others to see.

The way I see it, a Pixie is just a small human. It depends on what the nature of a pixie is; are they tiny Humans or tiny Elves?

Lore-Wise, a Pixie is a fey creature, which has ancestral roots to elves. So essentially they are tiny elves.

To give you an idea the 5e monster manual gives pixies a dex score of 20, a strength of 2, and proficiency in stealth. As for Jann, he is roughly 6 inches tall, and weighs almost as much as a half pint water bottle. Thanks to square cube law, this means he can leap into the air like a grasshopper and lift several times his bodyweight. It sounds more impressive than it actually is though. Being able to leap 3 feet into the air is great for dodging in combat. Not so useful when a gnome just has to wet your wings and lift his arms up to keep something out of your reach, and lifting several times your body weight is pretty pathetic if that only amounts to about 25 lbs and you can be tapped out by an unseen servant spell...

Okay, well unless anyone objects, I'll use this based off of Hayden's suggestion. -4 STR, +2 AC, +2 Dex save Advantage on reasonable Dexterity checks. Disadvantage on all Strength checks, and saves. Disadvantage on Melee weapon attacks Cannot grapple or shove any creature small or bigger Weapon damage reduced by one level (1d6 to 1d4, 1d10 to 1d8, etc) Weapon range =1/2 normal I still don't get the disadvantage on weapon attacks, but I'll roll with it.

Because of how big weapons normally would be, a pixie can't use normal weapons too well.

But doesn't the weapon shrink to fit the pixie? Reduced damage sure but not disadvantage. Anyway I've been thinking about it a lot the past few days and for the sake of integrating into the group and easier roleplaying all around I'm going to switch to a Flumph. This has absolutely nothing to do with how adorable those things are or how much I want to snuggle one... I swear.

As a tiny creature you can't move quite as much to get a blade in the right place and/or they move too quick/violently for you.

Hmmm, that's one way to look at it, but you could also say that as a tiny flying creature you're harder to hit and can go after the really vulnirable spots, like the eyes and groin, more easily.

Yeah, pretty much what Maxwell said. It would be like trying to stop a bee from getting close to you. A really inteligent bee that knows what eye gouge means. That being said, Jann dislikes violence like most pixies and I think it makes sense that he would get the shakes if he ever had to try his hand at melee. Also @Maxwell M. so your gonna play a Flumph now? Sounds cool, but I can't promise I won't flip you over. Are you still keeping the same backstory/concept?
