So, I wanted something a bit different for character generation... I wanted to add an element of randomness without making overpowered or underpowered characters. My goal is to ultimately have the players be assigned a random alignment, and a random class that fits into that alignment, as well as a random secondary class (if they don't like the first one) assigned to them. They would then build their characters with 20 point buy with the class/alignment in mind. I figured I'd do the alignment part with a "personality test" that I give my players before character generation. I want this personality test to be delivered in character, by a prominent NPC. The watered down backstory I made to fit this in: The world grew dark years ago. The land above ground was overrun by all manner of dark beasts. The last humanoid strongholds are underground complexes engineered by dwarves, but built by humans. Twelve of these cities were made... you grew up in one them. Recently it seems, the sun shines once more! It is still incredibly dangerous however, only those that pass the trials are allowed outside. A caravan of 20 brave citizens will be sent above ground to try to establish a more permanent settlement topside. These brave souls will be pardoned of all crimes (if they have a record), be awarded high ranking positions in office once the settlement is thriving, and (of course) be paid a hefty sum of gold. Trial 1: Psych evaluation, "do you have the mental preparedness to withstand what you might encounter in the outside world?" (This would be what determines their alignment) Trial 2: Rigorous training, "Now that we believe you to be a good candidate, you must be trained in order to survive" (This is just backstory fluff that will determine your class, and explain why you are already level 3) I will be hosting this game on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday (Depending on the player's availability), during the day, every week. I am also sometimes available to sit down with certain players and play at random intervals on those days when we're both available. Players that want to sit down at random times will be allowed to do side quests (if their character is not currently out) or play as a secondary character. I also want to keep the communication primarily text based. I usually do voice, but am in the mood for something different. I've noticed players become a bit more immersed if they have to speak in character the majority of the time. This will be an RP game, not a tactical bloodbath. (Not that there won't be combat... in fact, I'm planning it to be quite combat heavy).
