Seperate Map and Map Objects layers

While I think the current 3 layers are minimally sufficient, it would be convenient if there were separate layers for true maps (background art) and for map objects such as furniture. As it stands now, if the map objects are on the MAP layer, they sometimes may become lost BEHIND the map, or one may mistakenly select the actual map BACKGROUND when they mean to select an object. Moreover, currently if map objects are on the TOKEN layer, they may make it difficult to select tokens or objects with sufficient discrimination. Thoughts?
I would rather we have our own layers that we name for ourselves. Freedom is a staple of TTRPG's, and a system like this should be built to offer it plainly and easily.
