[D&D 4E, Homebrew] Newbie DM looking for Players

"A New World has been discovered!" News of the discovery spreads like wildfire. Ambitious lords, zealous high priests, and enterprising merchants draw their plans fervently. The docks of the cities blaze with activity, as ships are outfitted for long journeys and word goes out at every village square and tavern throughout the kingdom. A New World has been found and the rush to claim and colonize it has begun! Hello! This would be my first attempt at DMing a full campaign and I'm looking for players to join me in starting with a blank slate and creating an exciting world. The campaign will be long-term so please apply if you want a game where your decisions matter and have long-term consequences. Good roleplayers needed, but new players are welcome. THE DETAILS - TIME: Sundays at 3PM PST. The first session will be played on June 30. PLAYERS: 5 EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: None required! I'm new at DMing so mistakes will most definitely be made. I'm willing to learn and grow from my experiences and I hope you will be too. COMMUNICATION: We will be using a Mumble ( http://mumble.sourceforge.net/ ) to communicate alongside using Roll20. I prefer not using Skype, but it's a solid backup in case people are having trouble with mumble. PLAYER NOTES: 1. Roll20 is an incredibly open platform that accepts people from all places, creeds, perspectives, and opinions. Intolerance of any kind will not be tolerated and would be grounds for expulsion. Our goal is to have fun and that starts with us being hospitable to one another. 2. The campaign is starting with pretty much a blank slate. Backstories, character development, resource management, and NPC interactions will all play key roles in the campaign. The PCs can effectively diffuse encounters by using the words and not just their swords. Although, there will also be lots of opportunities to kick ass and take names. The hope is to have adventure be the center-point of the campaign and not just powergaming. 3. I'm open to discussing rules and outcomes with the players, but my decision will be final. Our collective goal should be to have fun, so I will do my very best to have the rulings support that goal. WHAT I NEED FROM YOU: - Let's start with the character concept first. Please either post a reply or send me a PM detailing the character's name, backstory, motivations, fears, reason for wanting to go to the new world, and other details that would flesh the character out. - Here are some additional guidelines to help create your character concept: Starting at Level 1 No race restrictions. PHB 1 and 2 races are preferred, but PHB 3 and Monster Races are acceptable. No class restrictions. Only good and unaligned characters please. Leave the backstabbing and evil scheming to our enemies. Backgrounds and Themes are allowed. Again, try and use these as opportunities to further and expand the character's personality and history rather than choosing the best mechanical option. No Dragonmark feats at character creation. I'll be making a homebrewed version of them available in the story later on. - I'll be looking for clarity/cohesion and creativity. I tend to be a light-hearted person so touches of humour and personality are very much welcomed. - When I contact you, we can start building out the character details together! Really looking forward to hearing from you all! If there's anything I may have missed or you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out. I won't bite! Only my monsters will... **Update: Added additional character creation guidelines for further clarification
I'll throw my hat in seeing as I'm not currently in a 4e game and this time totally works for me! (though I'm not trhilled about Mumble; but I'll grow used to it.) I haven't been a player in a 4e game for over a year so I'll need to brush up. A couple of questions: 1. What books are we allowed to use? 2. Are there any class/race restrictions?
Hi Karl, These following points should help clarify things a bit: Starting at Level 1 No race restrictions. PHB 1 and 2 races are preferred, but PHB 3 and Monster Races are acceptable. No class restrictions. Backgrounds and Themes are allowed. Again, try and use these as opportunities to further and expand the character's personality and history rather than choosing the best mechanical option. No Dragonmark feats at character creation. I'll be making a homebrewed version of them available in the story later on. Hope that helps!
Its a pity the time setting isn't later or I'd be able to join.
I would love to join up!
I have quite a bit of experience with 4E, at least making characters, and im extremely interested in this campaign. My character idea was something along the lines of a tiefling skald bard duelist. He/she (not sure yet) has fallen into the adventurers life through a want/need to add more flare to his/her epics. "The best stories told are the ones I'm involved in.", as he/she would put it. I'm not sure about anything else yet, but let me know if you want/need anything else. Im fine with the timing.
I'm thinking of a paladin who follows either Erathis or The Raven Queen. If Erathis, his goal would be to help the people build a prospering nation on this newly found land. If it's The Raven Queen, his goal would be to stop the cults of Orcus and to keep hubris from plaguing the new land and it's potential rulers.
Please invite me to this game. It sounds like its just what i am looking for.
How long do you intend for the sessions to go each week? I love 4E, and haven't been able to play for quite a few months now since my last campaign (ran for 2 years) ended. I need to head to church, but as soon as I get home I will post my character concept.
create a podcast for this game :D i would really love to join but i did try to sign up for another with the same time frame.. if that didn't pan out i really wanna be in this.
Aw man. I'm GMT and this won't start until 11pm my time. Would love to be involved but can't.
Hi, I’m new to d&d but I would love to join your campaign. I’m fine with the timing. My character is a dragonborn fighter, he is proud and seeks glory, but most of all, a new golden age for the long-fallen dragonborn empire.
Ok, my character concept/thought is this: Remy Doucet - A human artful dodger rogue who most recently served on a merchant vessel as a general deck hand, hired muscle if needed, and an overall good luck charm (Occupation - Mariner background). Remy is more at home on the sea than he is on land. A servant of Melora, Remy has been blessed with an uncanny connection to the winds (Windlord theme), a boon for those sailing the seas. With the prospect of a new land to explore, and a long journey across the sea, Remy eagerly goes from ship to ship, offering his services in return for passage to the new lands. I have a few other concepts floating around in my head, depending on what the party needs, as currently it looks like there are 2 defenders and one leader.
Risen - A human paladin who started out as a priest in a temple on the mainland. The Raven Queen, now sensing the discovery of the new land looks for a champion to instill her teachings there. Risen is chosen and has to find his way to this new land. Risen's fear is turning into a creature of the undead. As such, anytime there are undead around, he feels obligated to purge the entire place. The Raven Queen dislikes hubris, and therefore, Risen must punish anyone who shows signs of it. As for personal motivations, Risen was always poor and never had any luck with the ladies. He has no family, as his parents passed away early in his life. Hearing about the new lands, he decided it was time to leave the mainland behind and try his luck on a new frontier. Being a priest of the Raven Queen, he decided to pray for guidance, and it was then that she chose him as her champion. The character's age reflects his personality. Being only 23, he is still new to the world and has much to learn. He can make bad decisions, but tries hard to fix his mistakes. As a boy, he always loved reading books which carried out to adulthood. He loves seeking knowledge, specifically about the Raven Queen, as she's mysterious and never seems to tell him much about herself or her goals. Being of humble beginnings, he's very accepting and kind towards others. Hubris frustrates him, and will punish those who show a great deal of it. He's a loyal friend and guardian who would give his life for his companions. As a paladin of the Raven Queen, he understands that death is the natural end to all living things, and as such, is not afraid of it. He will also not mourn when any other person dies, for once again, it is the natural end. Summary Fears: Turning undead (Whether him or his companions) Motivations: Fresh new start on life Goal: To instill the teachings of the Raven Queen on this new land
Thanks to everyone who showed interest in the campaign, but unfortunately recruitment is now closed. If there are any further developments on that front, I'll be sure to let everyone know. Thanks again! Your friendly neighbourhood WebHead
