She requests that they do a small reenacting for her sickly daughter; Clifton, Cat and Virgil agree, while Wulrakas heads back to the Inn. Once at the woman's house, they realize it's a trap. Lila Ketborn, an old enemy turned revenant, attacks them. Her focus is on Clifton, and she manages to slay him -- but not before removing two of his fingers. The guards approach the scene but are scared away by Cat's illusion spell, depicting a dragon attack. The woman who led them there apologizes; Lila was threatening to kill her daughter, and she had no choice. She agrees to bring the body to the Wayward Dolphin once the party escapes from the city district. Back at the Inn, a remorseful Virgil begins to drink heavily. Cat deals with their passage to Seaton, since the crew of the ship they've booked are present. Wulrakas goes outside to brood after hearing the devastating news. At the table Cat also meets a Rhenee woman, Alena, who has booked passage on the ship as well. That night, prowling out of his room, Cat sees a woman in dark clothing and a mask drop a note off at Alena's door.
