Improved Private Messages Between More Than Two People

July 08 (9 years ago)
I've had problems with the current system when I try to start a private message thread with myself and two or more other people. I've wanted to do this several times both as a GM and a player to have a conversation that some but not all players need to know about (e.g. shared backstory, conflict resolution, side quests/adventures). Sometimes the person I want shows up at the top with a star next to their name and sometimes they don't.

I have a few suggestions that might make the system better:

1) A Contacts or Favorites list that you could add other players to via a "Add to Favorites" button on their profile. These would show up at the top of your list when you click "New Private Message"

2) Ability to add additional players when you click "Send Private Message" from a players profile. Sometimes one comes up with a star and the other doesn't so this would be a work around.

3) Add a filter to the search results when sending a private message with options like "Players I am in a game with", "Players I GM", or "Players in Campaign X".

I realize there are ways of making this happen outside of Roll20 (Skype ect.) but it would be nice if it could be handled within the Roll20 app itself.

This needs more viability. I would say not just what is up above, but perhaps partnering with another company like Discord, to provide a better, robust messaging system throughout the entire site.

Members should be able to:

- Add friends and message them individually, but also as a selected group.
- See when those friends are online
- Receive notifications, besides on the site, of when a message is received.
- See other members, non-friends, who are online that choose to allow that and be able to message them.
