The trick to making this happen is getting the rules or finding a GM with the rules for the game you want to play, that is willing to reach out and help you, even if you don't have the rules. Because the player to Dungeon Master / Game Master ratio is pretty high with a low number of DMs, it's more likely that DMs will (but not always) seek the player with a book. Savage worlds costs 10.00. 5e costs 50 new, but can be had a bit cheaper on ebay, if you live inn the U.S. I bought a bunch of savage worlds deluxe edition paperback starter book for 4 and 5 dollars each plus shipping last month from eBay. My suggestion as a solution is to watch some videos and reviews of the games you are seeking, then dive in and buy a book or two. If not, the situation will likely remain static and continue, unresolved, while you wait for someone to extend a hand to you, and make a character for you, or with you. And you don't need "A bunch of stuff." Still, 5e, Savage worlds, and Pathfinder are the most popular around here, it seems. Good luck, and welcome to the community.
