Roll20 mods ban-hammer happy?

So I tried to post a thread asking the community what they thought about another video game in comparison to roll20. I also was curious if anyone in this community was interested in that game. Before anyone had a chance to reply the thread was quickly closed and moved to another section where no one would see it. I was completely shocked to say the least! I have never seen a forum act so touchy about a simple discussion which was "on-topic" since it was about roll20 and its community. What really shocked me was when I actually looked in the "off-topic" section of the forum. It was loaded with lots of people wanting to ask questions about roll20 and different games. Some were about tabletop games and some where about video games. Why would the mods be so scared of letting people discuss games related in anyway? Seems a little bit weird to me. I wasn't trying to promote another game, ask people to play it, nothing like that and most of these other members weren't either. So why close a thread and move it out of site before anyone has a chacne to view it? I was really wanting to learn more about virtual tabletop play, but after seeing how things are being ran I'm starting to wonder. I'm also just curious to see if the mods are seriously going to kill this one too. If so well that's all I need to see here. What's sad is I was actually asked to bring this subject up be other members of the community.

The roll20 site is dedicated to support and discussion of the Roll20 itself. They are a small team, with an even smaller forum team. They don't have time or manpower to police threads about gaming in general, other games, video games, etc. So they set the forums up to be just about Roll20 specifically and related subject matter so the mods can keep it to the point and well defined. There is tons of other sites dedicated to just the discussion of the other things, setup with entire sections for each. If you ask around a few of the members could point you into the right direction for where to discuss such things, with a lot broader range of topics and wider userbase that is specifically there to discuss them.

Jack T. said: What really shocked me was when I actually looked in the "off-topic" section of the forum. It was loaded with lots of people wanting to ask questions about roll20 and different games. Some were about tabletop games and some where about video games. While it was available, off-topic discussion was permissible in the Off-Topic forum. However, it was the source of a number of fame wars, and so the administration decided that it would be better to remove off-topic discussion from the community forums area entirely. The Off-Topic forum was archived, rather than deleted outright, but you can't post there any more. I believe there are some groups dedicated to such discussion in campaign forums, but beyond that, off-topic discussion is simply not permitted on Roll20.
Thanks to our community for helping to clarify. Since this post is resolved I will close this thread. Thank you!
