Alright, I will schedule a meeting for Tuesday, July 2nd, and 7:00 pm CST. We will meet up in http://chat.mibbit.com/#sr5@gryphon.magicstar.net . Anyone is welcome, even if they haven't posted yet. Have Skype installed, I will give you my personal Skype information then. We won't be using Skype for the game, but I don't want to struggle with Google Hangouts right away~ Please, do not plan on a character *just* yet, as we haven't even had a chance to talk to each other! I also don't want to repeat myself 50 times, so I'm not so excited in the idea of PMing everyone. If we want to discuss, lets discuss it here. I will repeat this from another forum: There will be no need to be experienced with the system, as the
system is brand new, and has only been sold thus far in limited edition.
On July 11, the system will be released for ME to learn, so I don't
mind if there are newbies. I am also new to GMing Shadowrun. I have
played older versions a few times, and know my way around the cyberpunk
genre very well, its practically my favorite. But I have GM'd for more
than 15 years, so I am confident I can handle the challenge. I
will be using Google Hangouts to run the voice/video side of things, and
use OBS to stream to twitch, which I've done successfully in the past. I
will use roll20 to provide a map and roll dice, unless I decide to
program my own dice roller, or roll my own gameboard (unlikely). Shadowrun
is a setting where you play humans and demihumans in the year 2075,
where megacorps have the power to rule their own territories with the
force of law, the governments mainly used and abused for their own
purposes.. even the council of powerful megacorps is not done through a
government body. Discussions with the other players show they want
something in the Houston area, and to play street level runners - so
quasilegal freelancers, not people with full time jobs with the corps. I'll
be adding my own stuff to the world, I'm looking forward to coming up
with cool districts and plots in houston. And already have some plots,
for example, I have an investigation of gang scrawl inspired by the
Fireflies in The Last of Us/ plus Fallout/ plus [spoiler]. I will also
be playing with the idea of Fantasy Transhumanism, but I want to keep
the 'punk' elements central. Also I had the idea of there being DX:HR
style multi-level megacities in the gulf, replacing some oil derricks.
Government owned, so that there could be more tension politically, which
would drive up the demand for Shadowrunning. There will be magic, and
dragons, and hacking into digital VR worlds, and loooots of explosions. I
have the ability to run a character-driven game, a setting exploration
game, or a plot driven game, depending on the desires of the players. I
do want to keep the game story more focused, since I have a habit of
running multi-year megacampaigns, but if the players want to wander and
explore and freelance for everyone, that's good for me! I will
be drawing inspiration from videogames like Deus Ex, System Shock,
Perfect Dark, and Watch Dogs (the hacking in that last game is almost
directly stolen from Shadowrun 4's vision of the wireless Matrix). I
also intend to contrast Aeon Flux (to represent the personal domains of
the super rich), with Blade Runner (For the poor and 'punk' aspects),
Ghost in the Shell (For inspiration)... Really, there's a huge list of
cyberpunk media I'm inspired by. It's my favorite genre by far. And
while previously, I never really got into Shadowrun because it has elves
and dragons and stuff, it's always been the best cyberpunk game besides
that, and now the idea of exploring the idea of 'fantasy transhumanism'
has excited me and I am looking forward to the whole setting.
