Sync tokens to characters list

I was messing around with Roll20 last night and I found that adding character tokens and characters is a frustratingly separated thing. it'd be really nice if you could have each Character int he Characters list synced to a token, and allow the GM to simply drag the Character picture onto the board to use as a token. In addition, allow the tracking of token stats per-character, because then you wouldn't have to worry about finding the mini on the map, you could just change the token information on the character's tab.
Or for player characters have an icon you could drag once and it would drop all the player registered tokens onto the board at once.
Yes, I completely agree with Min. L, having the tokens linked with the characters is a really big help. I also believe an earlier thread spoke about tokens being added by players. Having the players be able to add their own character and token would be a huge step in functionality and ease of use for the GM. The less a GM has to spend time dealing with software or art issues on the fly, then the more a virtual tabletop becomes similar to an in-person experience that I think we are all looking for. I have used FG, FG2, Maptools, and the VTT by Sorcerers of the Beach that was recently shut down and where roll20 has gone with just a beta version so far is LEAPS ahead of the previous mentioned tools. Please keep up the great work!
The notion of dragging the picture to make a token was among the very first things I attempted to do with Roll20 when I first tried it out, and I was surprised myself that it wasn't the assumed use case. I hope to see that functionality at some point.
I agree with the OP. This should be a feature.
I'll join the agree train. I made up three NPC's with background info I wanted the characters to know and thought this will really be easy for the PC's to see this info when I share it with them. However info put into that section doesn't show when given to the PC's. Also I tried dragging the image to the map for the token and to my surprise it didn't work. This would be a great feature if added.
I agree with the OP's idea. However, I would keep tokens in Roll20's Characters optional, and I'd never replace Character's portrait with tokens -- especially if they are top-down tokens. For me, it's very important in a non-map based VTT to be able to see (or to show) the full-size or descriptive images/portraits of player characters or NPCs, instead just its map-related-token. Agreed, some portrait style tokens could double its function as character portraits and tokens as well, but the app shouldn't assume these kind of tokens due to the extended use of top-down tokens.
I also agree with the OP
I agree, Axel - I wouldn't suggest that the token become the portrait. I know there were discussions of portraits and so forth elsewhere; what I think would be cool would be for a character's page to have both a portrait image slot and a token image slot, so you could add two different images. Then, when you want to place the character on a map, you drag their token image to the map.
Indeed. Tokens and portraits are different things. There has been some discussions about it and the devs seems to be interested in adding portraits. http://community.roll20.net/discussion/1481/token-portraits#Item_16 I know that portraits can be used as tokens (like those made with Tokentool). But they are rather small (normally 70px) and what is probably still missing for those kind of tokens is a way to show the orientation (an arrow or something like that).
