Is anyone doing a cyberpunk 2020

i've been researching cyberpunk 2020 and wanted to know if anyone is doing a session i can join

One of the greatest roleplaying games almost nobody plays. /endresearch I've seen alot cyberpunk themed games listed, but not the actual Cyberpunk game. I just committed to running a heroes campaign, but might have some time down the road to whip up a one-shot.

I think the problem with that is that there hasn't been a new version since...Cybergeneration? Which is a shame cause I know that Mike Pondsmith has been trying to get Cyberpunk V3.0 up and running, depending on the success of the videogame may see it come to fruition.

Yup, I've no doubt that's the reason. Although you still see alot of listings for not only AD&D and all the retro-clones (obviously), but also for Marvel's FASERIP system, Star Frontiers, d6 Star Wars, classic Call of Cthulhu, and Vampire the Masquerade (which came out one year after Cyberpunk 2020). There's alot of old-school rpg love going around on Roll20, I guess it's just wishful thinking that some of that might find it's way to Cyberpunk.

Well it's an old system, one strike, and there is an alternative that is Shadowrun, second strike, and there isn't that much advertisement for it as Players or GMs...third strike, with that there isn't much but for it to fall into obscurity

Old systems are sometimes simpler, and therefore scratch a different itch. Shadowrun is not Cyberpunk, it is Fantasypunk. Because it is older and not many of the current crop of 5e and or pathfinder / savage world players play it, it's not usually on the top of people's lists. Also as a literary genre, it peaked in the 90s, smartphones and tech have gone a different way, so it's sort of an alternate history game now, much as Twilight: 2000 I used to run and play this extensively on open RPG about ten years ago, but yes, other than this post, there's not a lot of notoriety surrounding CP2020. If I wasn't setting up a 5e, and Traveller and playing in a few 5e, I'd run it, but that's how it is. No Time.

Shadowrun is a fantasy game much closer to Dresden Files, 50 years later in a dystopic future. It's like saying Iron Kingdoms is a suitable alternative to A Song of Fire & Ice because they both have the word "fantasy" in their description. You can definitely like and play both games, but they're not even close. I think the lack of attention Cyberpunk gets is a combination of being an older system, and that interest in the genre itself petered out post Y2K. There have been some decent alternatives put out there; the d20 Cybernet was a pretty solid game if you don't mind d20 systems. None of them captured the true "style over substance" essence of Cyberpunk 2020 though!
