Custom or Adjusted Systems and Character Sheets

Hello Community, I was wondering what peoples opinions are on having custom or adjusted systems or character sheets. I am currently running a rolemaster game with some friends and soon also members of the roll20 community. I am using a mix of Rolemaster and MERP (Middle Earth RolePlay second edition). We are using the MERP core rulebook and character sheets, but taking alot of the extended rules and all the spells from Rolemaster. This has worked like a charm so far. Allthough it is abit difficult to introduce new people to. What are your opinions on this? And perhaps someone has tips or tricks to make this work better.
