2-3 relative noobs looking to learn the ropes, open to suggestions for edition

Hey everyone! We're 2-3 people who are currently playing one game together through roll20, but would like to start up a second, concurrent game to stave off the boredom between sessions in our 1st game. We're pretty much DnD noobs, so we're open to different editions or games so long as the DM helps out with character building and is patient with us as we joke around and learn the rolls and roles (heh) of the game. We're all EST, and are generally available most weeknights, so a match in that department would be awesome. Hope we can get something going. ---And, Chris, if you see this, it has absolutely nothing to do with our current game or how you're running it - we're all having a great time and really appreciate your work as a DM so far. We can't wait to see CRB own those ratmen, we're just anxious to play more than we've been able to pull our group together!
First, hello; second you say you're new to D&D, though you're in a game already...I'd honestly suggest trying maybe D20 Modern if you want to try something different but not to off from the usual or Pathfinder. If you're interested in something different maybe World of Darkness, or maybe AFMBE. I hope you find a GM, course if my own advertisement doesn't work out maybe I'll check you guys up on your offer
So we all came about the game from a post on reddit, and one of the regulars from r/DnD was nice enough to GM for us. It's been a lot of fun so far but we've only gotten 2-3 sessions in, so we're all still pretty much brand new. Our current group (4 + the GM) has similar but often contradicting schedules what with half of us still in school and half of us not, so those of us not dealing with school were looking for a secondary game to play in offtime. I genuinely have no idea what the difference between Pathfinder, World of Darkness, etc even are, let alone have a preference. In fact, it might be better to do something a bit different from the relatively vanilla 4e game that we're playing currently.
If you are interested I could run a short campaign and one off of Pathfinder for you. It's not a heck of a lot different to be honest from the previous 3.5 version of DnD or many of the variations on that. I'm also in the EDT/EST time zone and am generally available to DM after 9 PM EST.
The biggest difference you'll want to look for is probably genre / setting: what sort of story are you looking for in this 2nd game? D&D is medieval fantasy. If you're looking to play a science fiction game, D&D probably isn't the game to use. The World of Darkness games, of which there are many, are (mostly) about supernatural beings (e.g. vampires, werewolves) set in the modern time. There are games out there for playing for most every genre of fiction you can imagine, from westerns to spy thrillers, superheroes to horror. Picking a genre that interests you is far more important than the particular game system that you use. Paul O. makes a good point, though; if you want a game that 'feels' similar to playing D&D, but want a different genre, there are options available, including D20 Modern.
Hmm, I'll have to talk to my group this evening to see what type of genre we'd be interested in. D20 Modern looks interesting and would certainly be hard to confuse with my Halfling Rogue.
Spycraft is also a fun more modern/futuristic setting as well. Had a bunch of fun playing that with some friends of mine.
I spoke to my group and I think we'd like to stick to the fantasy realm, rather than anything futuristic. I guess that would mean that we'd stick to Pathfinder, or some other edition of DnD. Leif, that would be great, but starting at 9 would be a challenge for our group during the week since I think we all have jobs that require us to get up pretty early.
Unfortunately after 9 PM is my personal time slots but I would not be surprised if there are other GM's with availability earlier.
