Disappearing background art on pages.

One thing that puzzles me about Roll20 is the way artwork suddenly seems to be unavailable on pages. This becomes most noticeable when I access my game on my tablet rather than my PC, and seems to occur most frequently with page background images like maps.  I've just logged in this morning and notice that the map background I've used on the welcome page for my game has dissappeared and been replaced by that broken window-pane image windows uses as a default for 'Image not found'. But I did just check, and the image itself is still sitting in my art library.  So I can access it and look at it, but it just isn't being displayed on the page at the moment.  However, I'm pretty sure that of I were to go back and access my game from my PC it would magically re-appear on the page. I've sort of got used to it now and ignore the fact that some of my artwork goes missing when I'm on my tablet, but I probably shouldn't because I have no idea how my players are going to log into my game and if it happened to them it would ruin it for everyone. Does anyone know why this might be happening, and how I can correct it (assuming its a problem my end)?

Didz, I'm going to shift this over to the bugs forum. While I don't think the first 3 steps will help you any, it won't hurt to try. It is the 4th step that will help us help you. Please read the following and see if any of it helps and then post the last step if needed. Can you please follow Steps 1-3 of our Solving Technical Issues wiki page, taking special care to temporarily disable all browser add-ons and extensions, temporarily pause your anti-virus, and try switching browsers (for Chrome/Firefox specific issues) to see if one of those components is causing the problem. If all of that fails, please follow Step 4 , including providing all of the necessary information, so that we can further assist you.

Thanks Pat, I've looked at the steps you linked and tried to comply with your request. So.... Web Browser. Google Chrome Version 44.0.2403.130 m - it wasn't up to date but it is now. Anti-Virus Eset Smart Security 8 - This is the same AV software that I use on all my computers.  I'm not sure how to determine if it's blocking Roll20, but if it is then it's only doing so on my tablet for some reason.  However, my PC is Windows 7, and this tablet is Windows 8, so I'm not sure. Cleared Browsing Data - Complete. I did an Imulus report which has been downloaded as a .PDF, but the details it shows are: Operating System Windows = Windows 8 Screen Resolution = 1600 x 900 Web Browser = Chrome 44.0.2403.130 Browser Size = 1600 x 799 IP Address 81.107.165.133 Color Depth = 24 Javascript = Yes Flash Version = 18.0.-1 Cookies = Yes User Agent Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.2; WOW64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/44.0.2403.130 Safari/537.36 Hope that helps. I might need further guidance on Step 4 as I'm not terribly technical.   However, I did just load my game again and the map background on the first page is still not being displayed on my tablet. ++++ P.S. Just to confirm that as expected everything is fine when I load my game on my PC.  So, this does seem to be something related to the tablet I'm using. ++++ PPS:  I've been back on my tablet and I've tried disabling my ESET anti-virus and then loading Roll20.  But it made no difference.  Just to clarify their are about four or five peices of art which are being reproted as not available.  They vary in format from .jpeg's, and .png's but other artwork in the same format seems to be fine.

Didz, I think your issue is you're running out of memory on your tablet. If there are a lot of art assets or very large art assets it's possible the tablet can't handle loading it all in but your PC can.

Could be!  My tablet has 4Gb of RAM which isn't amazing, and the main map is a 1.68Mb .jpeg.  However, some of the other missing items like the character portrait of the countess which always fails to load are only 72kb. I suppose the good news is that if it's the tablets lack of memory hopefully players will be able to see everything.

I've worked out what was wrong, and why certain images aren't loading when I use Roll20 on my Laptop/Tablet. The ones affected were the eary images I created for my campaign using GIMP, and part of the process involves exporting the GIMP image to a ,JPEG or .PNG file. I tend to go for ,JPEG, because Roll20 says it prefers this format as it saves file space, but when you ask GIMP for an Export to .JPEG it asks you to decide how good you want the quality of the impage to be.  (It's sliding scale from 0-100%)  Not having anything else on which to base a judgement I naturally asked for 100%.  After all why wouldn't you want the best quality image you can get? I've since been watch Daves video's and he makes the point that 100% is massive over-kill and that the most one needs for Roll20 is about 30%.  So I stopped asking for 100% quality and went for the smaller .jpeg file size instead.  But I didn't go back and re-export all my earlier images, and those are the ones giving the problems on my tablet. Not sure if it's the file size as such, or the density of the image but my tablet obviously doesn;t like them.  I'm in the process of re-exporting them now, but the ones I've done are all working fine now. So I think you can mark this as RESOLVED.

Thought it only fair to let everyone know what the problem was.  I figured anyone else new to using GIMP might end up with the same problem.
