Methods to deal with a Dark vision characters holding onto a light source.

So I am perplexed how to deal with user who are holding onto light sources who also have dark vision. Since they could see further than the light but you would need a third variable lightsource to properly represent both?
Usually, I drop in a token the has the given light source on it with everyone can see light checked. Then I will give the player control of that token. This way you can just remove the token if they put it out instead of going in and changing their token values. Also if they were to say throw their torch down a hallway to see, you already have a token set up for it. You can also group the light source with the pc token for ease of movment, but I find that can be a little picky to move around. Sometimes the light gets left behind.
Mmm yes its a known bug to be like that. Selected the token ends up dropping the group unless you double click first. Can be frustrating as nuts :/ I suppose thats a method.
This is a major pet peeve of mine as well.  It is frustrating, because there is no configuration that you can set on the token itself, and it is quite tedious to deal with additional tokens.  I am aware of some scripts that can help with this (!torch), however I still found it a bit tedious to manage (unless I am missing something). It would be nice to have two separate fields.  One set of fields is the vision of the token, then a second set is the light that other players can see.

That sounds like it would be a popular suggestion, which means you can guess what i'm going to say next... why not make a thread on the suggestions board ;) I'd vote for it...
Yeah something less cumbersome than additional tokens would be nice. In the meantime though, I don't think there's any other way to do this easily?
So are you allowing them the benefits of dark vision even while holding, or in proximity to, a light source?  I always thought it would work like NVGs where the light source would essentially overpower the night vision and render it useless.
Does 5th edition have such a feature?
