GM looking for players: D&D 3.5 Gestalt Level 10 game Time negotiable

Due to RL issues I would have to start over again due to new faces. This is a level 10 Gestalt starting game. Time will be negotiable: I work Mon- Fri 7am-4pm (EST) So I am free any other time. Down below is all the stuff you need to know: We use a combination of Skype and Roll20 for the maps and combat. (My time zone is EST) PC's we have: None for the moment Story/Plot: The characters at current are attempting to thwart an invasion due to extreme fanatical followers of Tiamat, the mistress of all evil dragonkind. Your party would be summoned by one of the largest town left unspoiled in the valley you will be starting. BOOKS WE DO NOT USE: Unearthed Arcana, Any book that is 3.0 rules, Book of the Nine Swords, Tome of Battle, Book of Vile Darkness, Book of Exalted Deeds (There is a few feats and items in there I will negotiate, but no promises) The characters are all gestalt. We use a 32 point buy system for ability purchase All Hp is maxed Our exp level is 10 Races: Core races allowed, other races you have to run by me first. Foreign races that I have allowed: Bastet, Leonin (both have been altered you may ask for their specifics), Half celestial, half dragon, a gryphon race, and an avian race. I can give you specifics on them if asked for. Anything else you will have to ask me about. Items: At start 42,000 gold will be assigned for you to purchase items only from the DMG1 book. As any Warrior, fighter, barbarian etc, you may only purchase potions, armor and weapons with enhancements only. EX: +2 longsword, or +1 longbow or +2 chain shirt. (you are permitted to use special metals if you want to pay the extra costs out of the DMG1.) As a magical class such as Bard, Sorcerer, or Cleric you may buy wands, scrolls, potions, weapons, or staffs. As a bard you may buy weapons, any light armor, potions, scrolls or Wands. As a monk you may purchase weapons, potions, or a monk belt from the DMG1 There have been quite a number of questions about item creation, and i should address that. You may take the item creation feats as normal. However I do not allow item creation when someone is creating a character new. I do allow times when the item crafter can make his or her items in a reasonable manner so that the feat is being used at a decent rate. And there is no replacement for paying xp for items, that will be done no questions asked. Feats: All Core Feats from the books PHB1, MM1. and PHB 2 are welcome, except for Natural Spell, and Leadership. Any other Foreign feats must be approved by me. Classes: Any from the PHB1 are fine, any from a foreign book has to be approved by me. (some of the classes off the top of my head that are ok: Knight, ninja, favored soul, scout) PrC's: No PrC's will be permitted in this game. They are only permitted in game if you can role play or earn the PrC properly and earn it in role play. House rules: There is no summoning spells in this game. (Druids from the PHB1 will be replaced with a variant druid which will also replace the wild shape ability. (In addition they will have the ability to swap any spell out for an equal level -vigor- spell) Monks as an option if they do not like the PHB1 version they may play as this alternate version ---> http://wiki.faxcelestis.net/index.php?title=Monk Upon death there is no XP penalty applied. Magical items are harder to come by in my game, to supplement this I have devised a decent patch to cover this: (I have given monks a break since they depend on magic items to stay competitive, so I made this is reasonable as I could) EX:Ability score bumps work just like how a ranger's favored enemy works. You will pick a (1st) abilty, and when that comes up say you pick Strength. Every times a Ability points (1st comes up only strength gets bumped. You pick Dexterity for (2nd), and when the ability points (2nd) comes up only dexterity goes up and so on and so forth. 1st: +2 ability points(1st) 2nd: +1 to all saving throws 3rd:+2 ability points (1st) -4th: Bonus Feat (fighter/monk OR metamagic/item creation)** 5th: +2 ability points (2nd) 6th: +1 to all saving throws 7th: +2 ability points (1st) -8th: Bonus Feat (fighter/monk OR metamagic/item creation)** 9th: +2 ability points (2nd) 10th: +1 to all saving throws 11th: +2 ability points (3rd) -12th: Bonus Feat (fighter/monk OR metamagic/item creation)** 13th: +2 ability points (1st) 14th: +1 to all saving throws 15th: +2 ability points (2nd) -16th: Bonus Feat (fighter/monk OR metamagic/item creation)** 17th: +2 ability points (3rd) 18th: +1 to all saving throws 19th: +2 ability points (4th) -20th: Bonus Feat (fighter/monk OR metamagic/item creation)** ** Monks can take the Improved Natural Armor Feat, and/or Improved Natual Attack Feat even if they do not meet the requirements as a monk bonus feat only in regards to this list. In English this will be in ADDITION to the normal ability points you get every 4 levels, and the feats you get at 1st and 3rd then every 3 levels after to compensate for the loss of magical items. I wanted to have magical items more rare so they are appreciated more. And it gives the magical classes more sway and look more mystical. My rules: Please be on time, or I will have to dock the percentage of xp that you are late of a session. In addition, if you do this too many times I will replace you. Please show up, or you will get no xp and you will fall behind. I will not play your character for you. (if you warn me by email in a reasonable amount of time that you will be late or not there, I -try- work out something with you.) No Players vs. Players fighting lethally situations, I have read and witnessed quite a few bouts and they always end up badly. Do not do it or it will be taken care of swiftly. Please show respect to players and the GM, and you in turn will be treated fairly in return. I do not tolerate bad behavior, Its a game we can be cool about it. Please, no evil characters. I will allow neutral characters, but if you give them no reason to go out and adventure I don't want to see them or you'll make another character. Please respond to this topic if you are interested. Please note, for me to consider you please have a finished character sheet via mythweavers, or similar for me to see. (It doesn't have to be picture perfect, I just need to see what I am working with. I am avilable some days to help out with folks who need help with making a sheet.) Also, and I hate to have to even ask of this. Please have a background of some sorts of your character : What are they like personality wise? Where did they come from? Do they have any family? Friends? Enemies? Things I can use to put in the story. I am not asking for a book, but just something I can use. I am not expecting a whole storybook, anything you can tell me. I value more about character development, and story over stats. That's all i can think of for the moment: Here is my email to get a hold of me ------> acstrife@gmail.com I also have a skype account, you can ask for it by email if you prefer that.
I noticed you had a lot of looks and no responses. It's possible (at least this is my opinion) that if you value character development and story over stats, that instead of starting at level 10, start at level 1! I find I am much more interested in a character that I actually play to that level rather than start with at that level. If you decide to make that change, please let me know, I would be interested. Thanks! :)
I appreciate your opinion, but i would hardly call 40 some odd views very much. The only reason this one is level 10 is I do not do very many of mid level, to high level campaigns. Its one I wanted to GM before I move onto another system. My last D&D 3.5 campaign as it would be. Anyways, thanks for the interest, and good luck in your search.
Well, I'm actually quite interested. I never seem to get to higher level play, though Gestalt is a touch new for me. I'll PM you with a query for your Skype.
Hello If the game is on Friday nights or Saturday during the day, I would be very interested in playing a sorcerer / favored soul of Boccob, if that is an allowed combination, if not, maybe a sorcerer / wizard for the ultimate arcane package :). Please let me know which of the two characters you think would be more useful to the party and I will send you a character sheet. Sounds like a fun concept and I am hoping we can find a good time slot that I can play in. Thanks, Dan
It could be on either, for the moment. But you would be the 2nd arcane spellcaster in the group if you went that route.
Ok, will probably go for the sorcerer/favored soul and be a utility spellcaster to buff and help others in the group then, if we already have a primary arcane to lay down the booms. Will send you a character sheet via PM shortly.
Well you gave me your availability times, which is good. All I would need from you for now is, what kind of a character are you intending to play. Save the class for the time being. What race are they, what is their personality like? Do they have anything in their past that's labeled interesting? Just basic things for now. I want to make sure we have enough interest before people get excited about making sheets.
Hello, I may be interested in playing a human exalted monk/warblade with vow of poverty? If you allowed this feat and build, then would bonuses stack with your custom modification to ability increases for the monk?
Unfortunately, as stated in my house rules, Book of the nine swords is prohibited from this game. Many apologies.
Shadark the Charming is a human, Sorcerer / Favored Soul of Xan Yae, Goddess of Mystery and Shadows Description : Tall and good looking, he stands right at 6' and weighs about 180 lbs, with fair skin, brown hair and blue eyes. He speaks with a soft smooth voice which is pleasing to hear. He tends to wear blues and greys. He carries only a single weapon, his falchion. He wears no armor, but instead relies on his magic to protect him. Background : A chosen one of the lady of mystery and shadows, he is a natural adventurer. While not overly greedy, he does intend to retire some day rich and powerful, why else adventure and put his life at risk? Magic comes easy to him and naturally, both divine and arcane. He tends to focus on making himself and his companions better rather than spells that kill outright. As such he is very much a team player and believes in group effort over individual glory. His family was quite well to do, being merchants of some repute. He learned from his father that words can solve many problems and is quite the diplomat besides being a useful spell caster. The falchion he carries is a family heirloom and he will not part with it for any reason. His late grandfather gave it to him on his 21st birthday when he set out to seek his fortune. It has been 6 years now, and he is very accomplished, thanks in no small part to the magic of his falchion. He will always try to talk first, unless the enemy is extremely evil such as undead, then he will not hesitate to attack. If and only if, a peaceful solution cannot be reached will he advocate for violence, preferring to trade or talk his way through problems versus simply hacking and slashing.
Veteran player here able to play a variety of concepts at the drop of a hat. Just depends on the decided time as I too work Mon-Fri but 1 to 11 PM. My first idea that comes to mind is a Rogue/Warlock who is at a crossroads in life. Namely he's subconsciously wanting to use his criminal skills and occult powers to do right by others instead of always being so self-serving. Oerhaps he's even a former villain himself who is ashamed with his estranged family/past associates. So conscience would be a big factor there. However in the same vein, since the character's probably a bit wizened up to the ugly side to the world they're in he could probably be more rational or assertive. The path to heroic redemption or just finding a group of friends would be themes to explore. However he's definitely not an idealist, so it'd be a mix of gruffness, sarcasm, and cynicism that would be coming out of him most of the time. For race, I would go for human unless there was something more lore or thematically appropriate to suggest. Play wise, I feel like the rogue/warlock combo would allow my character to be an effective skill monkey for the party who could still hold his own.
Good guys, keep em coming. I'm going to leave this thread open for a week to see how many bites we all get. I was aiming around to a max of five people but no less than three. As for race (since alot of folks PM'ed me about that) tell me what you would like to play as and I'll see what I can do to accommodate. I want people to have fun, and myself I want to finish this story heh. Some of this campaign does have some elements of followers of Tiamat, so any draconic like characters, or just followers of Bahamut would help. The other part, I'll keep a secret, but its something I converted way back when. Not required, but if any wanted to. I think we have one favored soul. Thats a charismatic based cleric. Some differences. From the look of this though, I may have to make a NPC fighter of some sorts for you guys. Seems so far most of the bases are covered. Last time I had to fill the cleric duty, so hard to run a game and play a cleric at the same time heh. For now, the character backstories, what they are, and what they do will suffice for me to make a choice who will be in the game. That way people don't go to the trouble of making a sheet until they know they are in. If you are not familiar with how to make a sheet, do not worry. I am not looking for experts, I'll render any assistance to those having trouble. And with what I did, it will more than likely happen.

im a veteran player i like to join with a warlock/fighter he a up close fighting caster Time // i can be on any day but Saturday Name: Aiden Moonridge Race: human Age:20 Gender:male Deity:none Backstory:for 8 year he been in the guild the books training and others things are starting to get boring (not good at making backstorys) Goals:live in the here and now (might help others with there goals) Personality:little arrogant (like to get the first shot off in a fight) http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=279198
I should probably clarify something, which I left in the original post. My mistake. All I want from folks right now, is time and days available (since this story is starting over with fresh faces), a background of some sort on your character, what role you want to be in, what race you would like to be, and any other information or concerns you have. Making a sheet right now is not necessary for me to select you. Sheets will be made after I select the folks who will play in the game. If you want to try to make a sheet, I won't stop you. But isn't necessary for this stage of recruitment. So it very important that these house rules agree with you before you are selected. That way I don't waste anyone's time. So far I see a few people who put effort, kudos to those who did.

Well I am availble mondays OR wednesdays at 7pm EST. I would like to play a Human Fighter/Rogue. My only question is do do allow feats from PHB 2 and the completes or is that case by case? Also I agree with the house rules just might need clarifaction on a couple if selected.
It depends how the character sheet in the 2nd phase is presented to me. I do this by a case by case basis as everyone well knows D&D 3.5 has more holes than Swiss cheese. Right now what I am more interested in the characters backgrounds, and personalities. Can't have a good story without some knowledge of the characters backgrounds you plan to play as. So keep them coming!
Newbish question here:I have the premium players handbook that Wizards reprinted recently. Is there a way to tell which things in there would/would not be permitted in this game?
I do have a list of sorts in my above posts of books I do not allow. The best way is to just ask me when the character creation process happens. Right now I am gathering to see who is interested in the game, what day or time they are around and match them, is ok with the changes I made, and what basic type of character in terms of personality, backstory, race and class they want.
I had read the list above (not quite that vapid) but I AM vapid enough to have not noticed that the premium book I bought says "Core Rulebook 1" on the cover. I thought that it had more than just the first rulebook in there, which is why I asked. Sorry.
Not a big deal at all, happy to help!
I'll bite. How do you feel about Magic of Incarnum? How do you feel about Factotums (dungeonscape)? How do you feel about Artificers who don't really craft permanent items but use infusions? I could see playing a Factotum 4/Incarnate 4/Cleric 1/Conjurer 1//Artificer 10 as being viable. I have no real interest in Factotum 8(the reason you see it in gestalt), and would much rather found the college that Chameleon (PrC) is based on. Base race would be normal human. Background: The character is dabbler who likes a bit of everything. Now that she has some levels under her belt, she wishes to open a college to teach dabbling as a practical art. Unfortunately, that requires money. So continued adventuring as a career path is in her future.(not to mention she needs some chameleon levels to teach)
Unfortunately, I do not allow magic of Incarnum or factotum. I really never had any use for that particular source. Many apologies. PrC's are earned on my games, I only allow them after a level or two. After I have seen people in action. As for an artificer, I would be willing to hear someone out about it, but that will depend on a few things. Hope this helps
Adam S. said: Unfortunately, I do not allow magic of Incarnum or factotum. I really never had any use for that particular source. Many apologies. Well, good luck with your game then.

Aviablable Monday at 7pm In front Melee Defender Zylo the Red (A Half-Orc) LG Duskblade(If approved PH2)/Fighter Zylo was born to a human mother and raised in the Gray Quarter. His mother received the housing as compensation as she was part of a traveling company that was attacked by an Orc raiding party. As can happen from cross breeding, Zylo was not perfectly formed. His skin tint turned out bright green instead of the subtle darker green of actual orcs and his back muscles are such that, though he is strong, without support he is left hunched over. The one and only trait he inherited from his mother was luscious red hair that he wears happily. In short, without armor, he looks like Blanka from street fighter. As Zylo grew up, he only left the house when needed, or do look for work, making sure to fully cover up.. The first person to take any kind of positive interest was Tamarie Johnston, the half-elven daughter of a merchant family in town while she was managing one of her family's stores when he was 11 years old. Being one of the few other half-human in the townof Oric, she would always say she enjoyed being around someone that was honestly not jealous/racist in the slightest. It most likely started as pity but he enjoyed the companionship and she seemed to be smiling while they were together. Something that surprised both of them was when she attempted to show off her family's stock-hold of books. Instead of just being a bit mystified and needing to be taught, he began to devour them. Within months he was helping her with her schooling, allowing her to impress her tutors and allowing more leeway with her family. For years they hung out and researched together. It was within these tomes that they saw sketches for a back brace that they eventually cobbled together. Fitting under his armor, looking a bit like a metal corset, he was for the first time able to stand straight up in his full 7 foot glory. It was also within some very dusty elven tomes that the knowledge of the duskblade was discovered. For the last two years he has taught himself these elven secrets and trained himself. Being inspired by the epic stories he has read he has decided to venture forth into the world. He has traveled the land, learning and fighting, doing good deeds where he can. He is a worshiper of Pelor.
I do appreciate all the effort people are putting into these. A small update, I have already chosen two people already that I feel will be good for the game. So far, we have a sorcerer/rogue, and a fighter/monk. I'm probably going to pickup 1-3 more folks. The agreed time that seems to work for myself and the guys I have is 9pm EST on Fridays. I'm working my way down the list of folks who applied to see whom works for this. Forgive me if I seem slow in getting to people, I appreciate your patience.
Another update, I aquired one more person a cleric/favored soul. (That is unless another plays a clerical role that might change). I'm looking for one or two more people, and it will fill up the slots.
might be a sorcerer / favored soul :) depends on what last two players will play

I think that will be a fine combination.
