Forgotten Realms 5E , my KOLTYR , and most recently Evslore all do/did similar things, just thought it would be interesting for you to see. ^^ Some words of advice, of course, it is super super fun, as well as a bit of work to set up. You're gonna want the following components: Players, of course. MMOTTRPGs can gain a LOT of players, so you won't have to worry about this too much. I usually clocked in around 6-12 people per session. However, if you go on break for any reason, even if only for a couple days, the player count often bombs. Also, players tend to enjoy the 4-6 man parties more, so you may not gain as much as you would like sometimes. A central town for players to live in. MMOTTRPGs do NOT work like traditional parties venturing around, you need somewhere for them to be located. Quests and the story can be progressed and completed by leaving the town in parties. 4-6 LEAVING AT A TIME!!! Huge player parties SUCK to run, it's super slow. GP and XP tracker. You're gonna want to keep a record of everyone's GP and XP on a spreadsheet, and update as they play. Spare character sheets. To do this, make a sheet, add all the settings you want (if you want Whisper to GM or etc.), set it edible and viewable to all players, save, then Duplicate it multiple times. I had my players name it "Character Name, (Player Name, Class)" and that works well. After a player claims a sheet, then set it edible to them only. Setting up folders to break up the alphabet would be necessary in the future. Spare maps. Find a bunch of maps and add them as pages for quick play and access. Macros. Without this, combat will be SLOW SLOW SLOW! Lots of energy and enthusiasm. I ran Koltyr for about a month before I took my hiatus/possible end. It is a TON of fun and everyone loves you for doing it, especially if you DM well, but no joke, it is a lot of work and commitment. It is totally worth it though, I'd do it again if I had the chance. ^^ I'd check out FR5E and/or Evslore though, they're always looking for new DMs to help out with the load. Also, it'll give ya an idea what you're working with.
