LFG D&D 5E (or I can try others) Weekly. Completely new and seeking mentor DM/party. I'm Aussie with Aspergers.

Why I'm here: I've never played a role play game like this but I've seen a few on YouTube and would definitely like to try! Difficulties: I have Asperger's Syndrome which means (amongst other things) I lack some social skills (such as being long winded in text and having difficulty knowing when it's ok to talk), sensory issues (such as too many people talking at once or loudly will likely overwhelm me), anxiety issues (including social anxieties, largely from being misunderstood in the past) and depression. Goals: Participating in something like this would be very fun but it will also help bring me out of my shell, improve my social skills, and help me make friends. Type of person I am: I'm very polite (often too much so, to the point where I'll rarely say a word for fear of interrupting someone, which is something I hope to improve upon here). I like to think (sometimes over think). I'm not very social usually and spend most of my time at home on the computer. I like fantasy stories, adventures, anime and manga, fantasy novels (although I haven't read any in a long time), good food and milk. Once I get to know people, I become more comfortable and speak more freely. I'm Australian, female, about 30 years old. I have no web cam but do have mic and keyboard. Type of player I wish to be, type of character I wish to have and type of story I wish to play in: When I play computer games or watch YouTube videos of games (computer or D&D), I tend to think outside the box and wonder what would happen if I could do something different. The hack and slash stuff doesn't interest me as much as exploring and planning things, but it's good every now and again. In a game I would seek wealth and freedom, and I'd be willing to lie and cheat and steal to get it, but I'd ultimately be reasonable and semi-good about it (not murdering innocents for the 5 copper in their pouch). I suppose that would make me a Chaotic Good or Chaotic Neutral Rogue. I like magic, and the many possibilities that offers on different ways to do things, so I'd probably take the path of the Arcane Trickster, although the possibilities of disguise and impersonation of the Assassin is tempting as well so I'm not completely decided on that yet. I've already worked out parts of my back story, including the Urchin background, but would probably need the help of a DM and/or party member collaboration to finish it. I'm not finished reading the books yet and I'm not very familiar with the worlds of these games yet but I'd hope to play in a medieval fantasy setting. I think that's about it.
Hey. First off, if I was still running campaigns in english, I'd bring you into the group in a heartbeat You show great character and heart. I think it's very tough to be so open about asperger's, as that condition often leads to misunderstandings when people don't know "what's different" about you. I have a good friend with asperger's, and I've seen a lot of difficulty with communicating with the outside world. My advice to anyone with asperger's: develop a personality where your asperger's becomes manageable and you receive positive reactions from people, smile, be friendly, learn to enjoy your lack of understanding of your surroundings. :) To any DM's wondering, asperger'smakes you more imaginative, more immersed, and more focused on a campaign, if anything .
Thank you very much! Yeah, unfortunately I can only speak English so I can't join your non English games, but I would've joined you in a heartbeat as well! I am definitely very imaginative and I'm a hard worker in games even when I'm not playing them, contemplating what's already happened and what should be done next. That's the main reason weekly games appeal to me. They'd give me time to think in between sessions. I also take copious amounts of notes because I have a poor memory but hopefully that won't bother anyone too much. I'm definitely not half hearted when it comes to this sort of thing, despite my social issues. Hopefully I'll be a good match for a patient and understanding group out there somewhere.
Hey I don't have a game just yet that has open spots but love teaching and I DM on Mondays for a D&D 5E group if you would like to try to learn how to play outside of it a bit also my group is open for spectators if you would like to do that once as well. I have a player who is from Belgium, he has a hard time knowing how to say things in English sometimes and we still all have a great time. I'm sure with a little practice you would do great. If you just want to learn a bit let me know. I might have one spot open in around 2 weeks from now as I was trying to expand our group for a new campaign Idea and I write all of our sessions. I would like to have a good story writer on my side for later as well.
That sounds good but would a level one character be ok? It sounds like an ongoing thing so wouldn't your players wish to continue the characters they've already built up? If it would be ok for me to join, I'd love to. Please let me know how that position turns out in a couple of weeks and what your players think of having me join the team. I can send you some character information if a Rogue would fit, or we could try to come up with a new character together that would better fill that opening. I would love to spectate. Do you have any old recordings of what you guys have already done? Please send me a private message if you don't want to share links publicly. Also, roughly what time and for how long are your sessions? What's your time zone? I'm in GMT+10 by the way. Thank you again and I hope to hear back from you soon.
Just wanted to say welcome to roll20. Would you consider a hard Science Fiction game (Like Traveller) or Space Opera (like Star Wars)?
Thank you. I'm really not much of an SF fan... I know there's that old saying about if science is advanced enough it's indistinguishable from magic but there's just ... I don't know, a different feel to it. If doesn't give me personally the same sense of wonder. I can't really explain it and I know it's double standards. What's the difference between a monster and a hostile alien? What's the difference between exploring ancient temple ruins of forgotten gods or abandoned alien structures? There really isn't one, yet something about the concept of the latter just doesn't move me the same way as the former. However, I really should wait to find out if Jonah has a space for me before I try to join any other groups. He was the first to speak up and I don't think I could manage multiple groups from the start (although once I'm used to it, that may be possible).
Of course. I like different genres for different reasons, and run them accordingly. Good luck in your search for a game that fits your needs.
Best of luck!
Hello! I think you have the right frame of mind. I would like to see if we can fit you into our game. We may have to work on the time zone difference a little, but I'm confident we can make it work. Our group is very flexible. Our group wants to start a new level 1 party in an established world. Please check out my post, let me know! https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/2353256/lf-female-gamer-for-estalished-dnd-group
Thank you, Poison. ************************************************************ It sounds great Jay and your group does sound like a good fit, but as I said previously: "I really should wait to find out if Jonah has a space for me before I try to join any other groups. He was the first to speak up and I don't think I could manage multiple groups from the start (although once I'm used to it, that may be possible)." It would only bring a disservice to all if I signed up for multiple games and lowered my ability in all of them because I'd bitten off more than I can handle. I wouldn't like that at all! On the off chance that Jonah does rescind his possible invitation however, I would very much like to join you. When would be the dead line or when do you wish to start your new party? Where might I find your rules to study up? If Jonah doesn't let us know what's happening soon, I might send him a private message, just so I can find out if I am joining him or not.
I've since talked to Jonah via private message and it looks like he'll be working with a higher level group so I turned him down. Jay, if you could please link me with study materials so I can get started altering my rogue to fit the new home brew rule set, it would be appreciated. Thank you. Looks like I've found my group, folks. Thank you very much to everyone for the support and I look forward to playing with many of you over the coming years! This is an awesome community and I'm very happy to have found it.
I don't know if all of this worked out. But if on the off chance it didn't i have an idea for a D&D 5e living campaign that will be text based. This will allow people to be social with one another but you dont have to interact much with other characters if you dont want to. This will be a community driven living campaign and its just spreading its wings dont even have a player base yet sadly but if you are interested you can sign in whenever you'd like and we'd have GMs running games for players all the time but for now its just me if you'd like to join please let me know
