Session 38/39: Crypt Killers

1442700717

Edited 1442700751
Date: 28th Goodmonth - 1st Harvester 609 CY Attendance: (38)  Wulrakas, N'Nera, Cat, Virgil (39) Wulrakas, N'Nera, Alena, Virgil ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Recap: Darron mysteriously disappears as the remaining party members trudge on. They pass a trapped portrait of a young, beautiful woman, and Wooly tears it open with his sword. A small alcove is discovered within, with some (mostly useless) trinkets. Proceeding this they destroy two vampiric minions, who explode into a fine powder.  Injured, with their health drained through multiple necrotric attacks, the party regroups in the first room and rests. During this time Cat mysteriously vanishes too, as does the Doorman. However, Alena returns after accompanying the priest back to Waverock. After regaining their health, the group continues on their way. In the next room they come across a tortured man at the top of a pillar; Alena runs up the pillar and rescues him, using her slow fall to negate any damage as he collapses on her. Just then, an enormous golem smashes through the western doorway. Thinking swiftly, N'Nera polymorphs it into a lizard. Woolie eventually manages to capture the lizard, and they go to look for asome deep body of water to throw it down into. Unfortunately the exit door is slammed shut -- but N'Nera once again uses his wits, stone shaping the door and stepping outside. Here Woolie and N'Nera see The Doorman again; after paying him some coin, he leads them to a deep well. They throw the lizard down and return to the crypt. Alena helps The Pillar Man (now calling himself "Santana") rest, by giving him her bedroll. The group goes into the next hallway, and N'Nera (again?!) finds a hidden room. They find a particularly bothersome 'maiden in distress' chained to a treasure chest here; N'Nera uses a geas to shut her up and they open the chest. Stepping out of the hidden room, they're greeted by a man with a monstrous visage. He also wears a monocle. He invites them to join him for dinner and to discuss an opportunity; this turns out to be a grotesque, macabre dinner party with corpses and a singing skeleton hanging from the rafters.  The man tells of how the party's companions are currently being held captive by his master, and how he wishes to take over the crypt. He says he wishes for it to be a macabre art exhibit, and after some discussion the party agrees to help him, so long as he's able to keep his master's sword and so long as they allow him to create his exhibit. He opens the door to his master's chambers and the party easily dispose of the vampire. Cat -- held in a small cage -- is released, as is Darron, who is strung up against the wall behind the vampire's throne. After some investigation they discover that the vampire's coffin resides within a giant skull in the room; Woolie fashions a stake from a flute he carved earlier, and Virgil does the honors by slamming it into the vampire's chest, ending his existence once and for all ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Experience: Alena – 7,000 XP (62,650 XP total) Wulrakas - 11,000 XP (113,750 XP total)  Virgil - 11,000 XP (91,850 XP total) LEVEL UP  11 Cat - 4,000 XP (97,500 XP total) N'Nera - 11,000 XP (84,500 XP total) Daron - 0 XP (57,500 XP total) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Loot:   Gold: 4,000 gold pieces, 1,203 silver pieces, 562 copper Coffer behind portrait: black choker with gem. There will be a time skip between the next session, lasting roughly 4 days. Please think about what your character will do in those 4 days. Since they'll inevitably have a long rest, the magical items from session 39 are: Parchment - Magical Scrolls. Rolled up contains the spell Tongues , while the tattered one contains the Message cantrip. Dark Bag - Bag of Holding. The bag can hold up to 500 pounds, not exceeding a volume of 64 cubic feet. The bag weighs 15 pounds, regardless of its contents. Retrieving an item from the bag requires an action. Bat Figurine - A modified Ebony Fly statue. This ebony statuette is carved in the likeness of a bat. It can become a giant bat for up to 12 hours and can be ridden as a mount. Once it has been used, it can't be used again until 2 days have passed. Dark Black Cloak - Cloak of the Bat. (Requires Attunement) While wearing this cloak, you have advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks. In an area of dim light or darkness, you can grip the edges of the cloak with both hands and use it to fly at a speed of 40 feet. If you ever fail to grip the cloak's edges while flying in this way, or if you are no longer in dim light or darkness, you lose this flying speed. While wearing the cloak in an area of dim light or darkness, you can use your action to cast polymorph on yourself, transforming into a bat. While you are in the form of the bat, you retain your Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores. The cloak can't be used this way again until the next dawn. (Fluff note: if worn and attuned the cloak transforms somewhat, the design resembling sinewy bat wings) Flask of Strange Blood - Potion of Superior Healing.  HP regained when consumed: 8d4 + 8 Small Pouch Containing Red and Black Dust - Dust of Dryness This small packet contains 5 pinches of dust. You can use an action to sprinkle a pinch of it over water. The dust turns a cube of water 15 feet on a side into one marble-sized pellet, which floats or rests near where the dust was sprinkled. The pellet's weight is negligible. Someone can use an action to smash the pellet against a hard surface, causing the pellet to shatter and release the water the dust absorbed. Doing so ends that pellet's magic. Everything else is mundane. Enjoy!
