An idea on Tokens

Hey there! I was wondering about my one complaint with roll20, and that's not letting players choose their own tokens. i had an idea and wanted to see what people thought. My idea is this: players can access the art gallery to browse tokens, but can't load anything onto the map. Instead they can pick the star to save a 'favorite' token just like the GM can do now. Once the player saves a token, the GM can search for the tokens and easily find the correct token as it's been saved, and should be near the top. I thought this might work as it doesn't require a 'new' feature, just changing permissions of the existing features. I'm not a programmer, but I thought something like this would get the job done with a minimum amount of work for the development team. What do you think? Good idea, bad idea?

Seems like a reasonable idea to me. - Gauss
Player can email the token image to you and you can make a token with tokentool. <a href="http://www.rptools.net/index.php?page=downloads#TokenTool" rel="nofollow">http://www.rptools.net/index.php?page=downloads#TokenTool</a> -Brent
I think that Vicky is speaking about players choosing a token that already exists, not about choosing an image to turn into a token.
Um, yea. I doubt i'm skilled enough to make custom tokens for every player. i can barely make maps lol. it's great the option exists...but my idea was more focused on using the roll20 interface, and with ease of use in mind. That make sense?

It is possible to copy a token etc..but it may require a bit of skill with paint or another program to recreate it. In either case, this is a needed feature to speed such things along. Players should have a means to tell or show the GM which of the premade tokens they want. - Gauss
Send your players to <a href="https://marketplace.roll20.net/" rel="nofollow">https://marketplace.roll20.net/</a> and have them find something on there for their token, then just search for it by name and add it to the game yourself.
Felger and Brent, your suggestions are great alternatives for playings choosing tokens. But I think Vicky D's Idea (or a close alternation of it) would so much more convenient and would make the R20 world so much better.
Thank you, meldebious. I know there are work arounds to this problem. I myself choose to make all my players GM at the start, let them pick their own tokens, and then demote them back to players. Yea it works, but there's a problem with nearly every work around I've seen. I mean, I don't know how to use tokentool, and don't think I should have to just to use a basic feature of roll20. And while the players can describe their token to me for me to find, this leads to more confusion than needed with players all shouting their ideas out and waiting for me to find the right token they want. I make players GM's as it takes pressure off of me for finding their token. If I had my way, I think players should be allowed to load their own tokens, but I hear that's frowned upon here. I suggest the above method as it only uses the roll20 system, and it makes finding the right token the player's job, not the GM's. They can just save it and the DM has access to it right away without having to scroll through pages of other tokens looking for it. So in short, I know there are work arounds. That's not what I'm looking for here. I think this method would be much easier for GM's without needing to code a new program or menu, just changing permissions allowed to players (letting them see the tokens, and letting them star/save tokens for the GM to see). All I ask is that such a change be considered to make the program easier to use. Thank you.
