Measuring Tool

I am trying to get the measuring tool to do what I want and its being a little bitch about it. I am running a battletech game and I want to measure distances in hexes. So I set the map unit to 1:1 and it still measures incorrectly. No matter if it is a straight line or a diagonal using a hex grid. Suggestions?

Unfortuantely, at this time the measuring tool is not really well suited for hexes. I usually find a good approximation and then round up/down appropriately. - Gauss

I made a short video in reply to your question. I hope this helps http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxPsNsL8AqI
This was helpful Metro but the problem is that even with set to 0.9 any hex after the first will still be off. This doesn't become a real problem until you get to around 9+ hexes. It is closer though but not accurate. Guess people will just have to old school count the hexes =)

Yup. Sorry that I couldn't help you anymore but that was the best I could work out for you.

rpgman2013 , the best way to get the proper approximation is to measure a long stretch of distance. Example: 20 hexes. Then divide that by the result of the ruler. Step 1: Measure the straight line (horizontal or vertical) distance out to 20 hexes. At scale = 1 and unit = 1 for Hex (V) I got 20/21.5 = ~0.93 Step 2: Measure the diagonal disttance out to 20 hexes. At scale =1 and unit = 1 for Hex (V) I got 20/21.9 = ~0.913 Step 3: Decide which direction you want to be most accurate or split the difference. In this case splitting the difference gives me ~0.9215. Step 4: Set the scale to the desired value. Note: I split the difference and then I mentally round up or down. It will be so close that over the 20 hexes of distance the ruler is only off by only +/-0.2 in either direction. - Gauss
I put in 0.875 and it works. so maybe that's the magic bullet we were all looking for =)
