Autumn Returns

Greetings! It’s my pleasure to herald the arrival of my favorite season of the year: autumn. Simultaneously arriving upon the flight of its chill winds is my favorite hobby: tabletop role playing! Huzzah!  This season, I’m attending a larger university in the much larger city where I live. No more shall I have Internet connection problems. That will take care of almost all my issues getting to the table. First of all, I’m glad it seems as though everyone’s looking forward to resume playing. Awesome! I am as well! Going forward, we have two paths ahead of us. The first is to continue play using the Dungeon Fantasy supplements. The path bifurcates again should we decide to do so: Do we continue where we left off using the same characters, or start anew with different characters ? While I would hate to think we didn’t finish the story arc, I would like to make a return to an episodic down-and-town dungeon delve, something I never quite grasped all last season. However, we can also finish the current arch, then start dungeon delving (maybe even with new characters), so either way is fine with me. The second path forward is much different. Chris and I have been kicking around a post-apocalyptic game set on a red planet. It would be a bit like Firefly meets Walking Dead meets Mad Max: Fury Road meets Judge Dredd . Grim and gritty. Blood, sex, and heavy metal. Zombies and mutants. Fast cars with roaring engines. Shotguns, belt-fed machine guns and other slug throwers—but no energy weapons (lasers). Powerful spaceships maintain a low-orbit blockade so no one gets on or off the desert world. If you’re outside one of the bubble cities, you better be in a space suit—the terraforming didn’t quite take. Plus, there’s still a lot of radiation. Apparently, there was some type of fast-spreading disease and the cure came in the form of orbital nukes for the whole planet. Characters would likely be made from 200-point templates from Monster Hunters 4 and given 50 more points to use on various packages, such as races from Bio Tech and psionic powers; stuff like that. This option will likely require an extended start-up period on Chris and I’s part. Though he’s done a lot of footwork, there is a lot left to do. If I can’t sit the fence, I’d say we should pick up where we left off. I don’t have strong feelings one way or the other, but that’s the quickest and easiest. Then, after the current arc, I'd try very hard to distill the game into the basic Dungeon Fantasy format. We could then make new characters and such.  What say ye? In your reply, be sure to answer the ultimate question. It’s not just DF or sci-fi, it’s: 1. DF, start anew? 2. DF, start where we left? 3. Sci-fi? 4. Something else? So, which option and why and how strongly do you feel about it? Furthermore, we need to set a day and time to play. The best time for me is either Saturday  or Sunday at 1 p.m.  Central Daylight Time . We could go later, but Archie claims to live in fairy tale land. Strange that Valter lives with the tigers in the trees of the jungles of Brazil and Luke in the frozen North of Canada, both of which are far, far away, but their times aren't that far off, yet Archie just supposedly lives across the water and he's in a whole 'nuther space-time continuum. Just to make sure I get a reply on this, I'll set the day and time officially:  Official Day and Time: Saturday at 1 p.m.  Central Daylight Time .   * * * Possible start date: Saturday, Oct. 10., 1 p.m. CDT. * * * Got a big problem with that? Let us know! Looking forward to gaming again! Hope to see you all soon!  —Stripe

I suppose that in the backwater colonies, filled with criminals and the children of criminals as they are, England would seem to be a sort of dream land in comparison. Long live the Queen, long live national healthcare! lol, nice to see you, Stripe. How was your summer? Do alright on your finals? Gorefest-wise: I don't feel too strongly on the subject but I think I'd prefer starting fresh, tighten up the rules a little bit (I know that a lot of that is my fault, sorry). I would like to see the end of this arc though, otherwise that would be a bunch of effort on your side wasted and loads of cool maps that we'll never get to see. If the other guys are more interested in the Post-Apoc setting though, then I wouldn't mind trying that out (though I'll have to confess that I've never seen any of the movies you listed). Saturday 10th would be okay, I think that that's 6PM my time so I'll be able to duck into a library pretty easily.

Looks like you'll have one less  tarzan boy... I joined another group on Saturdays and I'm really enjoying that game. It's every other week on the exact same time slot, save unexpected events. So, the only way I could still play here without issues would be the episodic format, which would allow me to alternate between groups. I know Ulf wont be that much of a loss for anyone (considering his stature and body mass), but here are my preferences anyway: 1. DF Continue / New Game+; 2. DF / Sci-Fi New Game.
Eh, I like all the ideas. So I'll put my vote with the majority rules.
So far, the time/day is still up for debate, so you don't have to be too put out there, Valter. We could perhaps move it to Sunday or slightly later and inconvenience Archie again. It's not like he NEEDS sleep. Otherwise, I'm pretty much good with either one. I know that a few of you have seen the Beta write-up of the Post-Apoc setting that Stripe would be putting his own unique twist on so we can assume that it'll be just as fun as the current DF game. But no matter which way we go, I'm gonna be happy. If we continue with DF, then I'll be happy enough to switch to a Holy Warrior. Or if I'm feeling masochistic, I'd go with a Bard and watch Stripe kill me in the first second of combat, probably with a heavy rock. If we go Post-Apoc Sci-Fi, then that'd be fine as well. A large amount of fun can be had in a Cataclysm setting, including more and different enemies, various new weapons, and there's no need to give up on melee combat and groin shots that we've all enjoyed. And the majority of our character can be easily updated to the new setting if we've grown that attached to them.
Alright folks, looking through things it has been discovered that the Teamspeak server that we used to use (Turbo's Place) is no longer available. This has forced us to actually get off our bums and do something productive, in this case it was to search out a proper replacement server. Well a free one has been found and it can be gotten into via: ts5.freets3.net:10001 This is a free server with up to 32 people max. The only caveat is that it needs someone to log in every 2 or 3 days otherwise it will be deleted. I'll try my best to keep it going, but no worries if it disappears. I'll just hopefully get another server going and spread the new address around.
Valter, how does Sunday at 1 p.m. work?
I also have a back-up server that seems to have enough of a community to keep it going for at least the rest of the quarter year the game starts in. Once again acting as a failsafe as the mighty Rothuk once did.
Stripe said: Valter, how does Sunday at 1 p.m. work? Iffy. I actually play 2 games on Sundays, the first runs from 1 pm to 5 pm, when the second one begins. I've been considering dropping off of the first one for various reasons, which would free up some time, but 4 hours might be too short for Gorefest.
Well, shoot, Valter. Sorry to hear that. :-( I can only play on the weekends due to full-time school.
I don't suppose there's room for another player is there?
Not your fault, Stripe. I still might be able to make some appearances if possible... i have this certain character i'm min-maxing at Chris' request you know =D
Well, that is if we go with Post-Apoc, though we might also do some basic one-offs that might be able to use it if we do continue on with DF. As for another player, I don't see why we might not be able to bring in a temp once in awhile as long as Stripe agrees to it. Sorry to hear it, though, Valter, we'll all miss Ulf's Lucky Charms when you can't make it. Unless we can somehow move the session forwards on Saturday. How long does that game last generally?
I believe stripe loves me, or at least he should :D I'd defintely like to come in and join in with you guys
I don't mind having an extra player every other session, Valter, and we'd be happy to have you. If things go south with your other game, you can come back to full time here.  Congratulations, Archypetro! Looks like you're in, just so long as you can commit to a weekly Saturday (or Sunday, if we decide) time of around 1 p.m. CDT and have a headset or functioning mic/speakers. We'd go later, but 1 p.m. CDT is 6 p.m. over there in King Arthur's land and we don't want poor Sir Archie falling asleep on us. We usually play five to six hours. I set a soft deadline of about five hours to end play each night. We normally get close to an hour after that before I really start laying on the brakes. If we start at 1, I'd say our first "deadline" will be 6. If that's all good, then welcome aboard! I can assure your peers at the table that you are a player of the highest caliber and you'll find like company here!  :-) Hearing from you guys, I'm currently leaning towards a fresh beginning in DF . Less baggage. Easier on me to get us started. Easier to make the game episodic.
Sounds good, I'll bring the bard.
Okay that's great I just bought way of the warrior and Technical grappling :D - so am excited to get them read. As for timing, that's cool. i'm from UK too so GMT 6-midnight should be fine for me. DF sounds great, is it starting level DF (250pts?) and are we able to kind of mix-and match templates to create non-standard characters? For example, a scout with an animal companion might be cool or a a thief with a bit of magic. Thanks, (i usually cal myself archy, but petro might work fine too)
Tell ya what, if you've got time can you log onto the gameroom and/or Teamspeak and either Stripe or I can walk ya through the basics of Gorefest character creation.
Christopher D. said: How long does that game last generally? The one on alternate Saturdays runs for around 9-10 hours. Yeah, it's every other week, but when it comes around it's a intense marathon! Wish i had a clone to play all the games!

If we run on the Saturday I'd be able to go 2-3 hours later, whatever's more comfortable. Sunday I'd have to ask the times to stay as is, since there are lectures the following Monday bright and early. E: By the way, do you remember the bug we had with the ruler tool? Turns out that it's only broken on hex grids, so if you don't want to use Roll20's grid on maps, switch over to square grids before disabling.
im big on the  DF, start where we left :) not haveing played a lot of Gurps befor this and feeling like i have not realy had a chance to fully injoy my carictor i would like to stick with him even if some ppl would like to make new ones but stay with the story lol i want to know what happens :P  also saterdays are good for me but 2:00 is kinda hard 5:00 is much better for me and i can go 5:00pm all night :P
oh and i am estern time
Well the time is still a bit flexible. As for the characters, there'll be a few things about them since we'll be doing a fresh start. That doesn't mean you can't keep Kritty, but I'd say wait until we get a post up about that since we're still going over some items and rules that should be/need be decided upon before we actually get the ball rolling and Indy running. . . damn traps. . . Either way, feel free to drop by the Gorefest TS Server and we can chat. I'm pretty much camped in there making sure it keeps open.
Traps? Rothuk cares not for traps!

I'll admit that my personal preference is 5 p.m. CDT and that's what our original time (and day) was. I just really hate brutalizing two of our five or six players. We play for five or six hours at a time, and starting at 7 p.m. means getting out at 1-2 a.m., which is pretty rough.  3/4 p.m. CDT/EST is 8 p.m. GMT, which is a very late starting time, but all the smart people in the world migrated to this side of the Atlantic a long time ago so I think it's a fair compromise. I really think we're going to start anew, but that doesn't mean you can't play CK, just at the starting 250-point level (you probably gained less than 10 points in play). As a matter of fact, there might be an optimization or two that we can use to increase per-hit damage a bit. I recall that was something you wanted to improve.
saterdays befor lunch is time i set aside to spend time with my wife so its not realy something i can switch :P lol  i have a lot more flexabilaty for erlyer start times on sunday like around noon if it is about going to late :) so 5:00pm atlantic time also a side note in canada thanks givening is coming up so i am booked with family on the 4th, 10th so i cant play those days ill just have to read the notes after (thats the saterday 4th and sunday 10th)
>.< i mean sunday 4th saterday 10th)
Luke, I didn't know that it was a big holiday in your country on that day; of course you'd not be expected to attend. Also, I do fully realize the importance of family time.  Sunday is a better day for me. I've been informed by Chris that Valter, you might have a slot opening that day . . . How is Sundays at 1/2 p.m. CDT/EDT looking? Let me know ASAP!
I'm good with that here. True it'd be around 11am, but for you guys, I'll be awake. . . probably. Unless my job has decided to schedule me for that day. But I should know that in advance anyhow.
Could work for me.
That should be good for me, yea.
Ok, so it seems now that the only person to be worried about now is Petro. After all, no one cares too much about Archie Prime and his crazy life with his hot roommates.
Hot roommates? Why have I not been told of this?
It's been a constant source of chatter since we learned about it last year. I hear he just moved into a different place with hotter roommates. At least that's the gossip Stripe and I have been telling each other.
Tentatively, we'll set the standard time to Sunday at 1 p.m., CDT.
Do not worry bout me :D
sunday 2:00pm Eastern time for me sounds grate :D i can make it thier that time and day :)
