Game System

I'm fairly particular about what games I play and it would be nice if GMs were required to list their game system. Some list it in the description but it should be placed in the "Currently Playing" field. It would help me keep away from the spiky armor stuff. :-D Oh, and a damned description should be required or at least a hook. This "King for a Day" w/ no accompanying text and no idea of the system played shuts down my interest immediately. C'mon, you guys can do better than that. I'm stuck plucking w/ one finger and I have two games detailed.
I agree, but likely to a lesser extent. I do think that game ads should have a few more fields to make sure that all games get a reasonable amount of info out. I'd like to think that most DMs on the site would be ready to list a larger amount of information on their game, but as with bloodymage, I've seen quite a few that just have a short (one sentence) idea and nothing else. Maybe we could see LFG ads get not just the game name, but then in a second small field box a place to write in system and edition? Also, while on the idea, it would be nice to see a "power level" kind of field. Be it level, point build, rank,
I don't think that requiring GMs to list their game system is always a good idea. While in most cases stating what game system is going to be used is a sensible thing, in other cases, there are GMs announcing games and letting players to vote for the game system. Instead of a requirement, I'd prefer to endorse listing the game system as a suggestion for making things easier.
While that may be true in a few cases, what harm would having a box to fill it do? If you want to decide by popular vote just type in "TBA" / "TBD" and in the description mention that you're open to suggestions and requests from the players. I support giving players a voice in the system decision, but at least make the field available so it IS there and not something over looked by DMs still wet behind the ears.
I agree that listing the system of the game would help a lot. I mentioned that they System really should be listed in the title of the thread along with the games name in my Guide at the top of the LFG Section. I also agree that a lot of people write sloppy advertisements for their games as well, which is why I wrote the Guide to start with. I personal won't even read an add anymore if it is only a few sentences long and doesn't look like any thought was put in it... If the GM isn't going to put effort into the advertisement why would he put effort into running the game? I would suggest the titles all looking like this: [System] Name of Game - Time Zone or specific time Any of those things could be listed as TBD or whatever as well but if they are all formatted the same then it makes browsing easier. In this format Ajax's latest game would look something like this (He usually has similar names so I'm using as an example): [Pathfinder] Ajax One Shot: Drearcliff House - 8pm CDT Makes it easy to scan for a setting, time frame, or specific game.
I usually put the acronym i front of my game in brackets: {v20]- Dracula rising, [VTR}- Under the Sea. Folks in the know will know v20 is 20th anniversary vampire the masquerade and VTR is vampire The Reqium. And if they dont i usually say so in my game description.
George S. said, While that may be true in a few cases, what harm would having a box to fill it do? No harm, if filling that box remains optional, or the GM can put there things like: "we will be discussing the game system to be used" if needed. On the other hand, I agree with the rest of your post as well.
