@Moss It's role playing, but the mechanics are totally different, in Dungeon World the GM/DM doesn't roll any Dice, everything is determined by the player reactions to immediate events and it is largely narrative with player reactions dictating the flow of the game and the story progression... Basic Rolls are directly tied to Ability Modifiers (these are the same as D&D) but the DIce mechanic is 2d6 + Ability Modifier, and the results are: 10+ your action succeeds without a hitch, 7,8, or 9 you succeed but with a consequence, 6 or less you fail... A simple example of play might be: DM/ "You are sitting at a table in your favorite tavern with several friends, a tall rough looking man walks in and ambles up to the bar and orders a glass of milk. (then the DM asks your character directly) "Who is he and how do you know him and What Do You Do?" Now building on the results of what you've answered (which is entirely made up by you on the spot), the story continues... You can see how many different ways this could take the story, maybe he's a long lost brother, a sworn enemy, he jilted your sister, saved your life, etc (endless possibilities based on that one simple answer)... That's a simple explanation of Dungeon World... -Ajax
