Character Name: Violette Harmonia Race: Human Appearance: Weapon:
Violette wields a pair of Khopesh swords that she has taken to calling
Melody and Harmony. Since she is right handed, Melody is always in that
hand while Harmony stays in her left. She can combine the two weapons
into one by placing them side by side. This second form is called
Symphony. The blades of the swords dull, the locking mechanism on the
hook portions turn into gun triggers and the hilts become sawed-off
shotgun barrels. While the range of her shots are not that impressive,
she makes up for it with spread and power. She fire six rounds before
having to reload. While her weapon can make use of dust, she often times
uses regular bullets unless she is forced to do otherwise. Her dust of
preference is electricity. Semblance: True Sight - Violette has
always desired to see the truth of about the world and that has
reflected into her power. She is more aware of her surroundings than a
normal person and her sight borders on Faunus level with the ability to
see even in darkness. If pushed to their limits, she can even see the
weaknesses of others and use that information to counter their actions.
However, this does not mean that she is omnipotent. Sometimes, sensing a
person's power just means you get to see yourself getting your rear
handed to you. Fighting Style: While she is not shy of entering
melee combat, Violette is a cautious fighter. She would prefer to block
and evade attacks rather than risk attacking immediately. This is to
give her time to fully examine her opponent. If possible, she tries to
disarm her foe using the hook sections of Melody and Harmony to knock
weapons away. Once she has a general idea what she is going up against,
she switches tracks and goes on the offensive. Often times, she will
counter a move she witnessed before and then use the opening to attack.
Symphony is considered her trump card and she doesn't use it unless she
needs the firepower. While she does have dust, that is kept in reserve
for extremely sturdy foes. If she can't stop an opponent with normal
bullets, she will break out the dust while complaining about how
expensive it is to use. Personality/History: If a stranger asked
Violette about her past, she would tell that person she does not
remember it and that her life began at Beacon Academy. She acts reserved
and seems to complain about how everyone seems focused on luxury.
However, that is a total lie. Violette knows the truth about her origins
and only shares it with people she trusts. Her real last name is Issa
and her family was part of a group of settlers that set out to create a
new settlement. While they did hire huntsmen to join them, a fair number
of them were Faunus. The settlers felt that they could get help for
cheap. Eventually, the settlers discovered a fertile and relatively Grim
free area. They founded the village of Harmonia and hoped to turn it
into a town that would be the next point of light. However, things
weren't completely peaceful. After officially settling
down, many of the human settlers felt the Faunus had served their
purpose and should move on. Some of the Faunus agreed but a few did not.
They had set up roots in Harmonia and did not wish to leave. Tensions
grew between the more outspoken humans and the Faunus. This would be the
backdrop for Harmonia's curtain call and Violette's new path. Violette
was born in the village of Harmonia and barely understood the dangers
of living in the frontier. As a child, she was curious despite her
parents attempt to temper that curiosity. Harmonia was already well on
its way to being a small town when Violette was born. Violette's own
parents told her that the 'beastmen' were only useful as meat shields
and nothing else. After building walls and guard towers, the settlers
and their descendants grew arrogant. They thought they could at least
survive any assault against Grimm now. She couldn't just accept their
opinion though and tried to talk to the Faunus repeatedly. The adult
Faunus didn't want anything to do with her because her father, Gray
Issa, was on the town council and would just make life even worse for
them. However, she did have some success with the scant few Faunus
children. There was a squirrel girl by the name of Sierra who often
acted like a surrogate big sister to her. Sierra was also curious by
nature so the two of them bonded quickly. Her other Faunus friend was a
dog boy named Cyran. Cyran loved to tease and play pranks on Sierra and
Violette but he never meant any harm by them. Thanks to her interaction
with these two, Violette felt that her parents were wrong about Faunus
as a whole. Although some Violette's human friends started drifting
away from her due to her views, they never outright rejected her since
her dad was important. The young girl's life changed when she
only 12 years old. The council had finally had enough and were in talks
about forcing all Faunus out of Harmonia. Violette practically called
her parents morons as she shouted at them not to do this and earned a
spanking the process. The motion passed and to avoid further conflict,
the Faunus families all picked-up and left. Before she left, Sierra gave
Violette a single Khopesh blade, one of two. Sierra's Mother was a huntress and
collected many weapons during her life. The blade was part of a set and
she wanted Violette to have one so that they would be connected. The
three friends had often played with wooden swords before so Violette
promised she would get better with the blade and show Sierra all she's
learned when they meet again. Three more years passed as Violette became
a lone wolf. She would sneak off to train by herself and any time
someone would make a joke or snide remark about Faunus, she would rail
on them even if they were an adult. She kept her blade a secret from her
parents but eventually they discovered it one night. Gray was
determined to have the local smith melt it down the next morning. That
was the night Violette decided to run away from home. Whether it was
good fortune or bad, this would be the last night of Harmonia's
existence as a settlement. A swarm of Grimm attacked the
settlement and as the people prepared their defenses, Violette stole her
blade back from her father and snuck outside. She pushed open a few
loose stones in the southeast wall and ran. From the shadows a set of
red eyes spotted her but it was more interested in the small gap she
created. It let out a howl attracting more Grimm and enlarged the hole
into a second attack point. Violette did not know about this and she
didn't care at the time. She just thought the Grimm attack was a perfect
distraction for her escape. It would only be a few years later that she
would learn Harmonia was wiped off the map. Violette heard from Sierra
that her group was going to head to for the city of Vale and so the
young girl wanted to follow in their tracks. The journey was harsh but
Violette kept energetic thanks to the thought of seeing her true friends
again. In the wilds, she saw many things and learned full well to keep
her distance from Grimm whenever possible. She almost died several times
in her journey but luck was with her as she managed to find a group of
huntsmen out on assignment. When she told them about her origins, they
offered to send a message to her town to let them know she was alright.
Violette initially refused but was grudgingly convinced that her parents
deserved to know she was alive. Vale was still the closer settlement to
where they found her, so she was guided there. In Vale, she
spent her time tracking down her old friends and eventually found Cyran.
She wanted to catch up on old times but instead of being the joking,
teasing friend she knew, he was very cold to her. He told her that the
founus group didn't make it Vale in one piece. They were attacked
frequently on their journey. Sierra was poisoned by a Grimm and died
before they reached the city. He handed Violette the second Khopesh
blade as proof of his words. The only reason Cyran gave up the weapon
was because Sierra made him promise her on her death bed. Cyrana decided
to become a huntsman because he blamed the Grimm that killed her.
However, he also decided to hate humans, especially the council families
like Issa's, for putting them in that position in the first place. When
the news of Harmonia's destruction reached their ears, Cyran was
practically smiling with grim satisfaction. Violette for her part had an
epiphany. The reason Harmonia failed was due to the ignorance of
others. The Grimm do not care if you are a human or a founus. As such,
Violette ought out the huntsmen that rescued her and asked about how to
get into Beacon Academy. She wanted to be a huntress for several
reasons. First, she wanted to protect others so they wouldn't have to go
through the pain of losing everyone they've known. Second, she was
worried that Cyran was letting his hate slowly consume him. Third, she
wanted to honor Sierra by learning how to properly use the weapons that
were given to her. Finally, it seemed that she had an innate ability for
channeling dust. To ensure that she never forgot this lesson, Violette
changed her last name to Harmonia. Violette's outlook is one of a
survivor. She grew up on the fridges of civilization and braved the
wilds that usually claim many. She believes in being a self-made person
but also being wise enough to realize when cooperation is necessary.
While she doesn't have the extensive education that students who went to
Signal Academy before transferring obtained, Violette has more
real-world experience than many children her own age. As such, she grew
up quickly and thinks that certain aspects of civilized life are
ultimately pointless. The conflict between humans and founus is idiotic
to her and she wants
to smack extremists on both sides in the head. Politics also mean
nothing to her. She doesn't care who is in charge just so long as life
gets better for those around her. Wasting resources is a sin on the
frontier so she only takes what she needs. Although she does a good job
of hiding it, she is torn over the loss of her best friend, Sierra, and
longs for something to fill that gap. Joining Beacon Academy was her
temporary solution. A little about yourself: My real name is
Chris. I have been roleplaying on internet forums since I was in middle
school but my first true experience with tabletop games came from the PC
game Neverwinter Nights which was based on D&D 3.5. From there I
actually got into a 3.5 game at one of Wizard's Game Day events and I
was hooked ever since. I have tried out quite a few systems including
3.5, 4e, 5th, Pathfinder, Golden Sky Stories, Marvel Heroic Roleplaying,
Marvel Super Heroes, Mutants and Masterminds, Battle Century G, Star
Wars Saga and Legend of the Five Rings. I have been a GM in the past and
even GM my own 4th edition campaign on Friday's here on roll20. My game
starts several hours later than yours so I don't foresee attendance
issues on my end unless we really stretch out sessions. Truthfully
though, I have zero experience with Savage Worlds but from what I have
seen thus far I think I can get the hang of the system easily enough.
Furthermore, I love RWBY so I'm very much interested in this game. I
think my semblance is a little on the weak side but I wanted it to
reflect her desire to see the truth in all things. What you look
for in a GM: Collaborative Storytelling. Yes, it is important to have a
set plan for how the adventure turns out. However, the plan should not
be an inflexible steel cage. I know from experience that players will
often do surprising things that a GM can't possibly prepare themselves
for. In those cases, I believe compromise is in order. If their plan
doesn't completely ruin the plot, let them run with it and try to think
of how this new change effects the story both positively and negatively.
While a GM shouldn't be afraid to say no or crack the reins when the
players aren't moving the plot along, I do believe GMs should work to
find a balance between their story and the players story.
