Making a Token, and the 'transparency' feature isn't working right. Could someone tech/token smart help?

So! Topic title says it pretty well. I am attempting to customize an image I found on the internets for a token. She was initially an elf with sword and shield, and I did a patch job of replacing the shield with a tambourine for a bard I'm playing. It all looks good in theory, I clean it up, use transparency, and yet it never works right.  Here's the original: The first edit... ....both of which I can load fine, though they both have backgrounds. Once I go in and try to clean up the background for transparency, I can't get it to load at all, getting 'error' messages. I doubt it's a bug as these do load/work fine, so I'm assuming it's an error on my part, but I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.  I'm frustrated as all heck, and I'm hoping some kind, tech/token person will take pity on my token to work some magic here. If someone here can wave a magic wand (or a magic mouse as the case may be) and help me out, I'd be grateful, otherwise my bard is going to run around in perpetual shade lol. Oy. It's laugh or cry at this point, and I choose to laugh. Anywho! Thank you for your time reading this sad attempt of me trying to learn new things. Take care and happy gaming out there!
The problem is the file format: JPG does not support transparency. What you want is to save it as a PNG.
