Trail of Cthulhu One-Shot 03.08.13 07:30pm (UK Time)

Hi I plan to run the Trail of Cthulhu One-Shot "The Murderer of Thomas Fell". I say One-Shot, at most it should be done in two sessions. I will run with 3-5 players and new players are more than welcome. "A man close to you—father, business partner, informant, friend—has gone missing. The search begins at his house... which is not as it seems. Following the trail of this missing man leads you on a startling and perilous adventure. Finding him may change your life, and his, forever. Tonight you meet the murderer of Thomas Fell." The following Pre-Gens are available: Kenneth Fell (Artist) Roger Fell (Doctor) Detective Norman Wright (Police Detective) Jan Joyce-Cleveland (Dilettante) Professor Knox Makepiece (Professor of Antiquities) Please post if interested. Thanks Isembard
I'm interested, depends on the date(s). New player to Call of Cthulu.
3rd August at 19.30-23:00 (UK Time). If the games lasts longer than one session I'll arrange to finish it at a time to suit the players. Let me know if you need more info and if you do want to play which character you would be interested in.
I've been looking for a Trail of Cthulhu game for a while. To confirm, this is Trail of Cthulhu and not Call of Cthulhu? Wouldn't mind trying Call, either, but I've read most of ToC. I'm not sure how different both systems are. I was going to start a ToC, but I really wanted to play before I GM'd. I'm thinking of taking one of the Fells or the detective. Anyway, yeah, I'm in.
Space Cowboy Definitely Trail of Cthulhu. I've run Call for years but don't really like the mechanics so thought I'd give Trail a try. I'll PM you server details and a link to the Pre-Gens if you want to look at the characters backgrounds. <a href="http://www.pelgranepress.com/seepagexx/January2009.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.pelgranepress.com/seepagexx/January2009.html</a> Open handout for the Murderer of Thomas Fell
I'm on GMT, so this looks rather interesting. Completely new though and while I did a little dnd years back, I think its best to just state "I know nothing about anything", so if there is something I'd need to read up on ahead of time let me know. As I'm new, I haven't used roll20 before either, so while I realise it has in-built chat is this done over voice too? Either way if you're in need of a bummbling idiot, I'm here for you.
@f00 While I'm not the Keeper and I don't know if he wants to deal with the 'new guys'. I'm practically new to everything too, at least with Trail of Cthulhu. I've played a number of Roll20 games, GM'd a few, but I still don't know how it all works. I'm mainly in it for the roleplaying. Do you know anything about Call/Trail of Cthulhu or are familiar with the GUMSHOE system? If not, it's probably best to read the Trail of Cthulhu book. At least the core rules. This handy cheat sheet is good, but there are a lot more details which was important. Like I said above, I've never played a ToC game so I'll probably be double checking. I still double check with Pathfinder and I've played many those campaigns.
f00 I'm more than happy for new players to play, that's both new to Trail of Cthulhu and Roll20. The investigation "The Murderer of Thomas Fell" was designed for convention plays so has an element of teaching players the system built in so I don't foresee a problem. To declare my background I have been running Call of Cthulhu for years, the last of which through Fantasy Grounds 2. Due to Roll20 being system agnostic I have made the move but haven't GM'd with it yet. For VoIP I had planned to use the inbuilt tool but if advice is that this isn't great I am happy to use Skype. My longer running Cthulhu game has been text only. My thought is to use voice for rules queries/combat/ and ooc and maybe text for role-play but again I'm easy. <a href="http://www.pelgranepress.com/seepagexx/January2009.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.pelgranepress.com/seepagexx/January2009.html</a> Check out the Pre-Gens and PM me if you are still interested and who you want to run. Kenneth Fell (Artist)&nbsp; ----&nbsp;&nbsp; Space Cowboy Roger Fell (Doctor) Detective Norman Wright (Police Detective) Jan Joyce-Cleveland (Dilettante) Professor Knox Makepiece (Professor of Antiquities)
Several things. &nbsp;Considering the date, I will most likely not be able to make it. &nbsp;(If I had to choose a character, it would be Wright or Makepiece). Isembard said, "For VoIP I had planned to use the inbuilt tool but if advice is that this isn't great I am happy to use Skype. My longer running Cthulhu game has been text only. I recommend Google+ Hangout (over Skype and the built-in Roll20 voice system) for several reasons. &nbsp;First, Google+ Hangout has Roll20 integrated into it. &nbsp;If you have a good connection/system, using the integrated Roll20 app is fine. &nbsp;Otherwise, you may have to open up a second window with the Roll20 map. Second, Google+ Hangout is very efficient at voice (like Skype). &nbsp;The Roll20 built-in system is not efficient from a technical point of view. &nbsp;Third, in my opinion, Google+ Hangout makes things more fun. &nbsp;You won't get interrupted by Skype messages that are not pertaining to the game. &nbsp;Hangout lets you focus more on the game and the interaction with other players. &nbsp;Also, later on (for other campaigns), you can easily record your sessions for players who missed a week, for example. &nbsp;Here is more info on Hangouts. <a href="https://support.google.com/plus/?hl=en#topic=3049661" rel="nofollow">https://support.google.com/plus/?hl=en#topic=3049661</a> Hope this helps.
Tarek-Othin, I may well give Google+ Hangout a try. Thanks for the advice. Thought I'd add a screen shot of the Home Screen for the Investigation.

Another player has signed up for the Mythos madness!! Kenneth Fell (Artist)&nbsp; ----&nbsp; Space Cowboy Roger Fell (Doctor) ----&nbsp;&nbsp; Joe P. Detective Norman Wright (Police Detective) Jan Joyce-Cleveland (Dilettante) Professor Knox Makepiece (Professor of Antiquities)
DATE CHANGE: The game will now take place on Friday 2nd August at 19:30 (UK Time) Thanks
I've pm'ed Isembard character choice. The google+ roll20 integration sounds interesting - I actually hadn't realised roll20 had it integrated in and was just hoping for any voice rather than text only as I figured it would be easier to communicate. I do have a mumble server I could offer if that is somehow better than the other suggestions. I've read through the cheatsheets and all so hopefully I won't hold any of you back!
Heya Isembrad! I would love to come with you on this investigation, I've played ToC and CoC a few times. I am&nbsp;all new to roll20 and all that though. I can tell you I would be most interested in playing Professor Knox Makepiece. Hope your okay with me possibly joining! Oh also I should say since last I played ToC its been a good while so Im more than rusty on the rules/system. YT Andy
Four investigators taken only one remains up for grabs! Jan Joyce-Cleveland is old money, with old secrets and definitely a fun character. In terms of mugging up on the rules the cheat sheet linked by Space Cowboy above tells you enough to get started and is only a one page document. I'll also run through the basics, including how I've set Roll20 up, on the night. Kenneth Fell (Artist)&nbsp; ----&nbsp; Space Cowboy Roger Fell (Doctor) ----&nbsp; Joe P. Detective Norman Wright (Police Detective) ---- f00 Jan Joyce-Cleveland (Dilettante) Professor Knox Makepiece (Professor of Antiquities) ---- Andy For those signed up could you click the link I've PM'd you for the game. This will add you as a player and mean I can assign you control of character tokens which will save a couple of minutes on the night.&nbsp;

Detective Norman Wright (Police Detective) ---- f00 Jan Joyce-Cleveland (Dilettante) ---- Joshua d. Professor Knox Makepiece (Professor of Antiquities) ---- Andy I think I have had everyone's email so the hangout invites have been sent. I'm really looking forward to the game.
