When I first started learning to play tabletop games, my friends and I would do 1-shot sessions that didn't use any system or have any real rules aside from what the GM decided would apply. Each of us would come up with as outlandish of a concept as we could think of with no concern for setting of place, time, etc. The characters rarely had such limiting ideas as race and class, instead they had occupations and afflictions and often had components that were a bit silly. The GM would take these random concepts and create a goal for them on the fly, but the game would mostly be about role-playing how these various unrelated concepts would interact rather than any overarching plot. The story was mostly the opportunity for the environment to prompt a better exploration of the concept. Any decisions were decided by flat d20 rolls with unknown modifiers applied by the GM who would usually be the only one to know the full details of each player's concept. GM would then tell the group the result of the action. If anyone is interested in playing in a game like that tonight at 6pm EST (a little over 2 hours from now), PM me your concept and I'll send you an invite to the game if enough people respond. Your concept should include one thing your character is particularly good at or an advantage it has and one or more disadvantages. Example advantages might be: rich, psychic, flying, immortal, always prepared, turns into a demon/dragon/flying monkey. Example disadvantages might be: can't control ability, young/inexperienced, cursed, amnesia, plastic, easily distracted. Both advantage and disadvantages should be key components of the base concept that is being role-played. Feel free to come up with as much or as little background in advance as you wish.
