Newb questions... Apologizing already :)

Hello, i havn't played D&D in about 30 years.. (yes.. im old) and lately have been watching streams and really getting the bug. And found out about roll20. I have been reading the newb help posts and such but the one thing i havn't been able to find is about creating characters. I am looking to get into D&D 5E (after reading the changes from 3.5 it just seems like a better system) But am just curious. with using roll20 do you still create a paper character? Is there a char generator when you join a game? how does that work? now to go read the players handbook :)

Roll20 is a virtual table top and the GM of the game will usually supply a character sheet that is built in roll20 and you fill out. Character generation varies from GM to GM but it is usually like the tabletop games you played back then. The main difference is the dice is usually rolled in the gameboard. If you haven't yet, check out our Roll20 Crash Course . This is a step-by-step overview for creating your very first Roll20 campaign. This tutorial uses the Pathfinder RPG to frame itself, but it's not a system specific tutorial and you should be able to follow along without knowing one single thing about Pathfinder.
Ah thank you pat.. i had watched the crash course but i must have missed the char creation part.. will check it out again.
