DM since 1980 wants players for Sandbox OSR AD&D Game

I am looking for players interested in playing in my OSR (Old School Renaissance) campaign. Play times will vary but will likely be during the week in the afternoons or evenings every week. Regular attendance is not required as players can drop in and play any of a number of pregenerated characters or, if they so desire work with me to put together their own custom character once they become more familiar with the setting. The starting point for this campaign is the Swords and Wizardry rules by Matt Finch which are heavily influenced by the Rules Cyclopedia, Basic and 1st Edition AD&D. Dwarf is a character class in this campaign, etc... Very much a detailed sandbox campaign where players can do what seems most interesting to them as a party from session to session. I can safely and honestly say that more than three hundred pages of written material with custom maps and homebrew campaign information has been put together for this campaign so far with no real end in view. I work on this setting and the current adventures for it every week.
This sounds appealing. :-)
I would very much enjoy a swords and wizardry campaign especially in the hands of a long time GM. I am a fairly new player but I do play another campaign of swords&wizardry with a bunch of homebrew rules and I really love this type of old school system because of the liberty it leaves to both player and GM to "do their thing" not be encumbered by a 10 foot long character sheet and hundreds of pages of rules and abilities. My only question would be what time/day are you considering for playing ? ( Since I am GMT+2 and have another S&W campaign running Sunday night )
I'd be interested, I typically DM so I'm looking for a chance to actually play in a game. Any evening except Mondays would work for my schedule. Please let me know!
I haven't come up with a set day of the week yet. Starting Wednesday next week just for fun around 3 pm Central time for just a few hours. Probably will be a week day or week days during the week usually in the afternoon or evening hours.
That works for me.
Works for me as well, I'd love to test the waters next Wednesday if you so please.
Sounds good. Brett, Andrew and George I will plan to see you guys there. Probably will have one other as well.
I would love to play although i have never played 1st AD&D
Is there a campaign page for this yet? If so, I would like to be invited. :-) On another note, will we use pregens on Wednesday or will we generate our own characters?
I'm definitely interested in this! I've been interested in your setting since you first put it out actually!
Below is the link for the campaign page. https://app.roll20.net/campaigns/details/136698/kingdoms-chimerical-with-ed-kann
Wednesday you can choose from a number of pregens. I am uploading another bunch of them to a thread related to Pregenerated PC characters on the campaign page.
sounds interesting. I love sandbox especially with a gm whos knows his stuff sign me up
Sounds good
Tried to click on the link, said Not Authorized
Not sure why some people can find and join the campaign without any trouble and others either cannot find it or seem to be blocked. Any ideas? I have been looking for any settings I can change and so far no settings to be found.
https://app.roll20.net/join/136698/2zp7RA This link should allow interested players to come and join the campaign. Generally speaking we play using google+ hangouts. So for an invitation you will need a gmail address and have your google+ hangouts options all set up and ready to rock and roll. Private messaging me your gmail address for an invitation is a good idea as I have pdf documents I am also happy to send to players in the campaign if you decide to play / stick around. As the Dungeon Master I should and probably will be online at least a few minutes before the listed start time for play. Seats at the virtual table are on a first come first serve basis. The maximum number of players I am willing to DM for in any particular evening's play session is 5. Seats are granted to players on a first come, first serve basis (at least for now, until a regular group of players emerges). Do not be discouraged by the growing list of players signed up for the campaign. We may have eight players signed up to play and only three show up on time. If you show up significantly late from the start time for the campaign (more than 30 minutes) you are welcome to watch but unless there is a shortage of players that evening should not count on playing even if we only have 4 players at the table. It is time consuming to sit and explain everything that has happened up until you showed up late and that takes a big chunk of play time away from the players at the table. If you arrive a few minutes late and we still have a seat at the table you are welcome to join in. I request that all players private message me their gmail address prior to arriving for play so I can add it to the list and grant you a quick invitation. Having to PM questions and answers unrelated to game play when the game is well underway is distracting and unfair to the other players. I set aside the first 15-20 minutes of any game session for campaign business and getting people set up so their video and audio is working correctly. By 20 minutes after the start time I would like very much to be playing. Beta - The current campaign is in a sort of Beta state while I upload more maps, tokens and learn the feature of roll20. This is also a good time to build up one or even two semi consistent groups of five players. My hope is to run at least bi-weekly if not weekly sessions for two groups of players in the campaign. The goal is to have everything tested and sorted out so that by early to mid September the campaign is going, all pistons firing, full speed ahead. Game Session Duration - For the next few months I am looking at a two and a half hour session, starting at 3 pm and wrapping up at 5:30 pm Central time USA. Eventually there will be two sessions offered each week, one on Wednesday from 3 pm until 5:30 pm and the other on Thursday from 3 pm to 5:30 pm. Players may play in either session or both. First come, first served until two established groups are formed. Experience Points: Players may choose a pregenerated character to start. They will be allowed to build their own personal character after they play through at the minimum, two game sessions. Experience points are granted to Players, not assigned to characters. Thus if Steve shows up and earns 500 xp a game session for three game sessions that experience transfers with him to his own personal character. Later should Steve's personal PC die he will be able to start his new character with the experience points he personally has earned in the campaign. He will not need be asked to roll up a new first level character. Experience points may be split between two different characters should a player wish to jump between say a third level fighter and a second level magic user. Once player experience is granted to a character it sticks with that character until the character dies or is otherwise retired permanently from the campaign.
Unfortunately, I will have to bow out, I don't even get home from work until around 5:30 PM, Central.
No worries. Sorry for the schedule conflict. I totally understand. I have to find a way to fit this in between getting home from work and taking care of my family responsibilities. =D Not to mention working on it lots and lots. Anyway we have a roster of 8 interested players and with any luck that will equate to three or four actual live players most game sessions. =D
We are full on the player roster. Players will be granted spots on a first come, first served basis. There will be only five chairs at any game session. The roster was closed at 10 players. Now we have an additional three to 13. New arrivals will not be granted a seat even if they are first to the session as we simply do not have sufficient room. I want to be fair to the people who signed up first. Players who signed up and who hold a place on the list currently but who never show up to try and play over the next few weeks will be booted to make space for players with time available to play.
