[LFG/LFDM] Inexperienced player EU timezone would like to try out some adventures

I am a 26 year old guy from Belgium who has a great affinity with boardgames. Due to lack of interest from my friends, I have only a very limited experience with dungeons and dragons. I have played in a few campaigns, but each one died after a few sessions because people no longer showed up, or the DM ran out of time to continue preparing for the games. I heard about roll20 and decided to sign up and give it a go. I would likely need some help setting up my first character, and the basics of the game (actions per turn, feats, hit dice etc.) would probably need some brushing up I have a PDF of the 5th edition player handbook that I am reading through again, though I would be open to any type of game/setting or any edition. I think my experiences were all set in 3.5. I am an avid fan of the Star Trek series and I heard they have a RPG game like dnd too, to which I'd be open. Are there any groups that would be willing to take up another player in their game? I am looking for a single or double session campaign to begin with. Before I fully commit to weekly (or every other week) sessions I would like to know for sure that there is some synergy with the rest of the group and that I like the interface and overall user experience of the roll20 application. Maybe some groups are open to having me (a random character they meet in one of their adventures) tag along for a session as someone with a shared objective, or just a mercenary/useless follower kind of deal. As long as I'd be able to give the adventure a go. I would be open to either creating a character, or playing with one that was created beforehand. Though I am fond of the combat encounters, I equally enjoy roleplaying and exploring the realm that the DM has set up for us. I can stay in character if required, but when the group permits it I can crack the occasional joke. (though not to the point where it would become disruptive). I hope to come across a helpfull group, keeping in mind that I am rusty at best, and largely unexperienced in the actual rules. I am no stranger to the fantasy setting though, and have a pretty good grasp on what a game of DnD will be, and require of me as a player. Feel free to hit me up if it sounds like I could be a part of your adventure or session :) Edit: I should have time available after work hours (say 6-7 PM until 11PM) on most weekdays. Weekends are somewhat harder for me on a weekly basis, though if I find the right group I'm sure I can free up the schedule on a regular basis. This weekend I have nothing on the schedule, and should be able to play any time of the day. For follow-up games or sessions weekdays would be preferred though.
Toon, I am Lucas from the Netherlands and am 26. I have been playing RPGs since I was 20 and am willing to GM for you. Before I do so, I have a few questions for you: What gaming style are you looking for? combat-heavy? narrative-focused? character-driven? realistic? cinimatic? Many groups on roll20 disbanded after one or two sessions. Do you have commitment issues? Could we speak Dutch? Hi Lucas :) Thanks for your reply! As for the type I am looking for: Anything really. I tend to enjoy the character-driven quite a lot, but combat is always exciting too. I prefer the 'fluff' though. Roleplaying the world, interacting with characters, using my wits to escape a challenging situation. The sword or axe would be a final resolution. I don't think I have commitment issues, but I there is always the occasional week where I have no time. Overall I could very well reserve a spot on a given night every week to do some DnD'ing :) And sure, speaking Dutch is fine! I might have a buddy who is also interested, if more spots are available.

Hi Toon, So my GM-style is as follows: I like to focus on roleplay, on the ´bigger picture´ behind the action. As a result, I do not pay that much attention to the small stuff e.g. you can just say that you found a small common item in your room instead of going out and wasting time buying it. I am more interested in actions regarding plot. Although I am free in what you can do, I am fairly railroady. If there is a plot, it is often predetermined what will happen. I do not like combat that much and typically only have one combat encounter per 4 hour session, depending on how the players handle it. Do you have a particular genre you have in mind? Personally I am a little burned out on the whole medieval fantasy genre. If your friend can speak dutch, he is free to join. Well, as the DM you would be setting the genre and theme ofcourse, but if you want to try out something different, I'm up for that. I am a fan of the space/sci-fi themes, so anything in that area would be cool. Maybe a pirate themed setting? (huge one piece fan) Steampunk setting? Anything really :P

Hi Toon, What do you think of shadowrun, a cyberpunk setting? Lucas
Sounds great to me. I haven't heard of it yet, but I'll see if I can get a hold of a players handbook or something!
