Name and Labels on Tokens, Please

Please allow players to toggle showing token names, and allow the GM a checkbox for "player visible" next to the token name in the token edit window. Invariably, when I show this service to a new prospective user, they remark on the absence of this feature. It is very difficult for my group to specify targets — searching the field to click and hold (for the circle cursor) and the need for the GM to be watching is an inferior method. Furthermore, my group loves naming the tokens!
MapTool also allowed a second and third field for "Player Visible Label" and "GM Label". Those were insanely useful for tracking conditions. Just last session we had the bleed condition, sickened, dazed, charging, sleeping and more all on the same encounter map. Text labels on tokens would be ideal for tracking this.
More generically, you could just have a single field that appears on token mouseover. That's flexible because it can be used for box text in adventure modules as well. Maybe you could have a wrapper of some kind like "/*" and "*/" for text that displays to the GM only.
Hello Owen, intern here. While I agree having text labels on tokens would be convenient, this suggestion has been previously brought up multiple times in this forum (see links below). As for your need to track statuses, may I suggest the colored labels that can be put on each token via the button next to the edit token (see image below). Just inform your party of what each color means, i.e. red = stunned, blue = sleep. These can also be used like raid target markers to help your party set priorities and distinguish between enemies. P.S. I asked the dev team if the token labels are in the works, I'll try and update you when I receive more info from them. EDIT: From the source "there is something in the works, i'm not sure if there's a previous post about it tho." So keep an eye out! Thanks for the response Tristan. Colored badges are just not enough for the level of complexity I've seeing even at low levels in Pathfinder. I'm glad to see that there may be a solution in the works.
Hello again Owen. One last update for you in case you haven't seen. Another new little code push just went to dev, with our first attempt at nameplates underneath tokens. As with other indicators, there is a new row of permissions under the Player Permissions section of the token settings, by default no one but the GM sees the nameplate unless you give players permission to see it there. I've attached a picture with an example of the feature. Hopefully this suits your needs. I just tried nameplates for the first time. It's a step in the right direction, but for them to be truly useful, they need to be positioned within the bounding box of the token itself. As it stands, if your guys are lined up vertically, they completely obscure the nameplate of the adjacent token. Yes, I know you can futz around with to-front and to-back, but the nameplates will still be positioned over a neighboring token.
Yeah, I'm happy about this! I think perhaps the font and placement deserve to be tweaked a bit over time, but considering that it came out *the day after* I asked I guess I can't complain. :)
