Paizo's own description of Jade Regent is pretty spot on: "When a decades-old secret is exposed, an unassuming local tavern-owner and a close friend of the PCs discovers her birthright is to rule one of the ancient Dragon Empires of Tian Xia—the empire of Minkai. Yet the current ruler of this empire, the mysterious and increasingly cruel Jade Regent, has no intention of giving up his hold over the throne. In order to save Minkai from a would-be tyrant, the PCs must not only escort their friend from Varisia to Tian Xia, braving the frozen horrors of the Crown of the World, but must aid her in gaining the trust and support of a nation on the edge of anarchy." You will be traveling to Minkai, the Pathfinder equivalent of Japan. Currently we have an interesting mix of characters. An old Dwarf Shaman, a Human Fighter (Archer archetype), and a Psychopomp Synthesist Summoner. The player we lost was playing a Halfling Rogue, who wound up multiclassing into Wizard when our original Wizard (the Shaman's first character) was killed, and in the most recent session, decided he was going to multiclass into cavalier as well, because we captured an enemy and basically turned him into a mount... Yeah... I'm a relatively new GM, and as such, I'm not the best at allowing roleplaying (that is to say I'm not very good at setting up situation for RP), though I am trying to work on it. I've been told I allow just enough to make the game fun without being to ridiculous. As for other house rules, because of the prominence of eastern weapon and how few classes actually have access to them, I've made a few changes to class weapon proficiencies. For instance, Rogues and Bards gain proficiency in Wakizashi, Sais, and Kamas. Any class with full martial weapon proficiency gains proficiency in Wakizashis, Katanas, and Kusarigami. Oh, and Tiefling don't require a feat to take alternate heritages. There are probably a few other things I'm forgetting, but those are the most prominent.
