GAME IS FULL, THANK YOU ALL FOR THE INTEREST! Greetings
Adventurers!
I have been a 5E DM for a few months on
Roll20 (since the end of June 2015) and recently, 4th edition has come up on my
radar and I am very enthusiastic to give it a try!
My last game was a modified version of Lost
Mine of Phandelver that finished last weekend and while I enjoyed running it very much, I realized that I
wanted a bit more structure and tactical combat and game play and when I looked
into 4th edition, it seemed to be just what I'm looking for. I still love 5E...I
just feel like I have to give 4E a try ;)
A Little About Myself I started
playing RPGs back when the old Sierra games like Space Quest, Hero's Quest etc
were just coming out. Then as time went on, I spent many months in the Baldur's
Gate series. Many, many games (and years) later, I found pen and paper D&D
which brought me to Roll20.
Now I play here with my wife who is new to this type of gaming but just loves D&D :-) She was in my last game and after
reading the 4th edition PHBs, is also very interested in trying it out.
As for my DMing personality; I tend to be pretty easy going, laid back, relaxed
and I don’t get worked up about silly little things that might create drama. I
enjoy game rules but I’m not too serious or rigid about them. If there is a
question about a rule and it would take too long to figure it out, I’ll just go
with the flow and do whatever I think will move the game along and keep the fun
flowing. The rest about me you’ll just have to find out for yourself when we have our
chat on Skype :P Play Schedule We will be
playing on the weekends, both Saturdays and Sundays from 1:30 pm to 5:30 pm
Eastern US Time. The given hours are the only time that works for me and my wife, who will be playing with us also. As for the days, I really prefer to
play twice a week so that our adventures don’t end up taking too many months at
a time.
I plan on having our first test run session on Saturday January 9th. If that goes well, we can
probably begin our first official adventure, one or two weeks later with a character creation session. What's The Plan? Well,
I’m glad you asked because I do have one but I’m also happy to go with the
flow…to some degree.
For
starters, I would like to play the 4E Starter Set which is basically a quick 3
encounter adventure with 5 pre-made characters that should be doable over one
weekend. I want to use this as a test run to make sure that all the players are
happy with each other…and with me ;) and to have a basic introduction to 4E
rules before we jump into our first real adventure which will be…Keep on the Shadowfell, probably converted to a Forgotten Realms setting.
KotS is part of a series that takes characters from 1 st , all
the way to 30 th level. KotS itself will take you from 1 st
to 3 rd level.
If
the group is having a great time when we finish KotS, we can talk about
continuing with the next adventure(s) in the series for as long as we like and
we can also pick up other shorter, standalone adventures in between for some
variety (to try different characters and settings etc.).
If
for some reason there isn’t enough interest in playing 4E, I might consider playing 5E again, in which case I’ll see what campaign I’m up to preparing
and running :-) I do really hope to try 4E though, so that is definitely a
preference for me at this point.
As
for character creation and advancement (in either 4E or 5E), we can talk more
about that once we have put together a group but I am pretty flexible with what
you can do, as long as it somehow fits into the rules of the system and the adventure. If you do
have any specific questions right now though, feel free to ask in here or PM me! My Player Wishlist :-) This
is the big one so please read it thoroughly so that there are no surprises,
should you wish to apply.
I
am actually quite picky about who I invite to my games and over the past few
months, I have put together a pretty extensive list.
One
of my pet peeves is when someone decides that they want to be a backseat DM. So
please keep in mind that you will probably be replaced very quickly if you
decide to take on the role of making rule calls or arguing about a call that I
have made ;) I have no issue talking about rules in between sessions but in the
heat of an encounter, I’d rather just make a ruling and move things along.
There
may be times when I’ll make a call that could seem odd or unfair to someone but just please roll with it
and know that I invest a ton of time and effort in my games and I usually
realize pretty quickly if something didn’t go as it should have and will adjust and
balance things as the game goes on.
Another
thing that is very important to me is that the game and language is kept 100%
family friendly (we will be using Skype, voice only for all our game play). We
have long term guests staying with us who have twin 6 year old girls who can
usually hear everything and what they hear, they repeat. Since I often don’t
wear headphones, any cursing that they could hear would be a very bad thing. And as I side note, I really don't enjoy hearing cursing myself.
Here
are some other traits that I would love to see in all of my players:
Have
an open mind and don’t come into the game with the idea that you’re going to have
an opportunity to change things based on “how your old DM used to do it” or how you think it should be done Be
willing and able to stay for the duration of the adventure (my guess is 2-3
months for KotS) Don’t
have any known schedule conflicts (we will always play at the same hours and
days of the week). Also, if you’re in Europe or other place with a very
different time zone, please make sure that you can actually play AND be fully
present and awake during our sessions (if you’re in Germany for example, the
sessions will end at 11:30 pm for you). I would prefer not to have people who
can’t wait to end the session because they have to get to bed or work. Sleep
and work are obviously very important but if my game is going to cut into your
real life schedule in any way then please don’t apply ;) Be
laid back and not too serious about the game and not too rigid about the game rules Have
a sense of humor and be able to laugh at yourself and admit if you make a mistake Be
friendly and lively (but not hyper) Player
age doesn’t matter as long as you fit the other criteria but I do like to refer
to games and things from the 80’s and 90’s out of character so be warned lol Cynical
or pessimistic individuals: I encourage you to look elsewhere ;) No
evil alignment characters are allowed in my games. That doesn’t mean that your
character can’t have some skeletons in his/her closet. That can actually be
quite fun! Be
present during our sessions and pay attention to what’s going on so that you
don’t have to ask a question about what just happened 5 minutes ago because you were playing
another game on the side for example Have
good manners; be on time, be polite to your fellow players and DM. Let the group know
in advance if you won’t be able to make an upcoming session Be
a team player; I really prefer players who like to work as a team while
figuring out challenges, combat, where to go next and whatever else comes up.
It’s fine to go rogue once in a while, especially if it fits your character but that
should be an exception, not a rule Be
responsive when the other players or DM ask questions during the game. I suppose
this fits under being lively and friendly :-) Same goes for in between
sessions. I tend to bring up game related topics in Skype Group Chat and I love it when my players join the conversation and give their
input. I know people are busy with their lives but it usually doesn’t take too
much time to at least acknowledge that you read something and give a little
feedback. I think that's just polite and common courtesy I
also prefer to play with people who enjoy the journey, rather than rushing toward
the destination. If you don’t like tactical and strategic combat and game play
in general or if you like to rush through things, you might not have fun in 4 th edition and my games in
general Speaking
of combat and other game play; it’s not all about combat in my games. 4 th
edition does have longer combat encounters but I do plan on having elements of
exploration and role playing to balance things out. If you wish to apply,
please be ready and willing to be an integral part of all aspects of game play Other Notes And How To Apply I
am especially interested in people who are new to D&D but anyone else is
welcome to apply, as long as they come into my game with an open mind and are
not going to be a backseat DM or want to change things based on how they have
seen them done in the past.
If
you have read this far and feel that my guidelines are probably not too crazy :P AND you feel that you would be a good candidate, here is what I would like from you:
Post
a quick reply here to show your interest and proceed to take my lovely little Application Survey on Google . (All responses will be kept confidential) If you are new to 4th edition and/or D&D in general, please take a look at the 4th edition Quick Start Rules pdf and familiarize yourself with as much of the rules as you have time for. Don't worry about learning it all right away, I'll be happy to answer any questions when we start playing...or at least point you in the right direction. How To Contact Me To Finalize Your Application Once
you have completed the application survey above, I would love to have a private voice chat with you on
Skype in the next couple of days. My Skype name is Oromasis108 . The call
shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes unless you're one of my gaming buddies from high school that I lost touch with many years ago :P
I
plan on selecting and inviting players as soon as possible but probably
not before the 22 nd of December (next Tuesday). And yes, I will let
everyone who applied know if I feel that they are not a good fit, probably a couple days after
we talk on Skype. And finally, thank you for taking the time to read my post! I know it is long but I try to be as thorough as possible so that everyone in my games has a great time :-) Even if you agree to all the above, it doesn't guarantee that we'll get along but at least there is a good chance...I hope!
