Interactive Map

I'd love to be able to assign certain pages to be accessed by players of my choice. Say the Map Page, which could then allow the players to pick where they wish to go, click on that location (a town or city perhaps) and it send the player to the next page with that town or city on display.
so yew want to loose control of where the players are at any givin time...? Though I agree the players do control where the story goes anyway....I dont see giving them the option to potentially flip pages on yew in the middle of DMing as useful... May I inquire as to what goal this would serve yew as the DM?
Rin the idea that you're trying to put out here sounds good in theory, but Cycotix brings up a vital point. You don't want the player running around all the time. how to you restrict that. you'd have to have a system in place to restrict character movement and Roll20 does not have that or a way to restrict anything the players do outside of never giving them ownership of a given token. also you want to have other requirements like the characters toke has to be next to said point to leave the town and head to the map page. by this point you've turn the roll20 system into an autonomous video game and a DM is no longer needed. This is not how Role-playing games are played. The DM guides the group and they move according to how the DM and group respond to eachother if the power is put wholely in the players hand any story that you could make would have to be ridiculously linear else the players would likely get lost and bored. I understand why you brought the idea up but it's not something that would help this system.

Rin, a safer method of giving players control over where they'd like to travel (without risking a take over of your campaign) is creating an overmap image and using it as a handout in the Journal tab. If your players have permission to view the overmap handout, any player can pull it out to reference at any point in time without disrupting the game. Or you can also create an overmap on its own page. If the players need to consult the map, you can load the page and the players can ping or circle with the pen tool where they'd like to go on the Tabletop. You can then load the desired location page that your players have chosen.

I like the idea. I use games where the other maps have purposes beyond just maps. I have to promote players to GM status so they can see them. It would be nice if I did not have to upgrade them to GM and could set the maps they could see. - Gauss
aye, id like to see a "DM Assistant" status
