So I have been running a series of one shots on roll20 that I have
enjoyed tremendously. It has started an itch in me to do something more
long form, but not open ended. I was thinking a mini campaign of 8-10
sessions. My big problem is that D&D does not appeal to me -
especially as a short campaign. I was looking at people's thoughts and
ideas on the following 3 Mini Campaign ideas. Is your reaction one of
"That sounds AWESOME! count me in NOW" or "Good luck finding anyone to
play THAT" or somewhere in between. Here are the ideas.. 1)
"Trail of the Indy Files". It is WWII and you are part of an elite
paranormal investigative team researching occult artefacts and tomes.
You are dodging (or confronting) the Ahnenerbe SS as you carry out you
missions which vary from purist ToC to pulpy Indiana Jones action. The
game would most likely be run using Gumshoe Trail of Cthulhu /
Esoterrorists) rules, but I would also be open to Chaosium CoC or other
rule sets. 2) "Mage of Enlightenment". It is the age the Louis
the XIV, Isaac Newton, William and Mary, Peter the Great. It is an age
where magic is being replaced by reason, and the power of magic is
starting to wane. You play mages in this time, where magic is being
outwardly shunned - yet still embraced behind closed doors. After all,
reason is no protection against the monsters and evil wizardry that
still lurks out there. White Wolf (Mage the Enlightenment) is a good
choice for this, but I could see hacking FATE or other systems. 3)
"Stardust Memories: AKA I'm being sued by Neil Gaiman". Players are
from our "normal" world, but are transposed into an alternate world of
fantastic magic, witches, gods, and heroes. Each one has a compelling
reason to return home, and yet somewhere in this world is also something
they desire. Can they do both? what will the costs be of doing one or
the other? I have NO idea what system I would run this one in, so let's
just call it FATE as a first choice. What system would you chose for non
magical people in a high powered fantasy world? Rate these ideas in terms of you interest. Based on input here and on RPGG I may proceed on further development. Thanks MB
