“20 years ago marked the end of the war for Sageard, the final push against the demons, and the remnants scattered beyond our borders - either back to the lands of the elves, where the war originated, and where it should have stayed; or to the waters, fleeing to the Demon Continent or Parts Unknown. Little matters, however, for the consequences were severe, the islands we once inhabited are nothing more than bonefields, as far as the eye can see. Be it those of our people, the elves, their cursed half-blooded offspring, or the demons themselves. But in adversity, we learnt a terrible truth about ourselves. We possess the means for war - in far greater capacity than the elves, or even the demons anticipated. We can bring both the Draconic Tongue and the Runes of the Elves to bear. Some of us can wield the magic of the Demons against them, for they created us. We were as cattle, food and fuel for their powers. But they needed us. Without us, they were weak and empty, without strength or power. When they could no longer use us as their tools for tragedy, they held no will to remain fighting. It was by the Grace of Altos, mother of Athon that we were saved. She unfolded her wings of light, granted us the enlightenment, means and will to fight back, and shaped the war in our favour. The Church of Athon became the salvation in the war, and we taught all we could to combat the demons. Never again shall they threaten Sageard.” PREMISE This game is a high-fantasy setting, focused on a group of 'heroes', in a post-war world, learning truths about the end of the war to start with, and going on to do greater things. The team has been hired by a scholar that has put forward a call for investigation into the fate of Elmalon - stories are varied, and it’s rumored to be incredibly dangerous, following the arrival of the Dragons, and that, in spite of their absence, he wishes to hire mercenaries to help him learn more about the current state of the ruined village, including, perhaps, if the Demon Lord is truly entombed there, and what happened to cause the calamity that befell this once quiet hamlet. Current players have created a team of unaffliated ruins investigators that consists of the following: Detective Barrows - Human? Gunslinger/Investigator Eldregor - Human Zweihander Sentinel Warder Kimi - Aasimar Brawler Issa Stormgazer - Human Witch This game is starting at level 3, with a 20 point buy. It consists of a party of 5, non-evil characters. The classes available to players are as follows: Core Classes (Wizards are less thematic in setting; Unchained replaces where appropriate); Base Classes (USummoner in use); Alternative Classes (rare); Hybrid Classes; Occult Classes; Path of War Classes (Harbinger, Mystic, Stalker, Warder, Warlord, Zealot); Aegis & Soulknife (Dreamscarred Psionics; no Archetypes that grant Psionic Powers) The following races are available, but many of which are considered to be part of the 'Demon races': Human, Elf, Half-Elf, Half-Orcs, Aasimar, Catfolk, Dhampir, Drow, Fetchling, Ifrit, Orc, Oread, Ratfolk, Sylph, Tengu, Tiefling, Undine, Changelings, Grippli, Kitsune, Samsaran, Shifter, Strix, Suli, Vanara, Vishkanya. (Other demon-races may be created using the ARG) Further setting information can be found here , or you can feel free to ask questions, which I will answer to the best of my ability. Telling us about yourself and your playstyle, and why you're interested is far more likely to net you a spot in this game, than presenting us with a character build. There are a few minor houserules, mostly involving how EXP is gained; rather than the traditional system of "Get XP from slaughtering other people", the game runs on a flat XP-per-session system, with a post-game vote and discussion about whether your character has accomplished or made progress towards their Goal for that session, whether they stood by their Belief, or whether their Instinct got them in trouble. (Shamelessly taken from Burning Wheel, and inspired by our resident GM here at Roll20.) About me: I'm a GM who has ran Pathfinder since shortly after it's launch as a game, have a background in D&D 2e, 3.5, 3.0, 4e, as well as in Exalted, with over a decade of experience GMing, and longer playing; presenting characters who are optimization challenges or will ruin the fun of others will be swiftly rooted out. I have no tolerance for people who attempt to justify these characters. In order to ensure that you have read both the document and this post if your post, I'd like you to list the non-D&D game I have a background in, and one of the two major groups in Kenelm in your post. My intention is that everyone at the table has fun in the game; I'm more than open to discussion, and prefer to hear concerns, rather than people remaining silent until they choose to leave.
