LFP - Group seeks 1 more for D&D 5E Out of the Abyss (Full Campaign) - Jan 29th, 2016 @ 7pm ET

Group Size: (5) 4 players, 1 DM. We are seeking 1 additional player. Game Time: Fridays from 7PM EST to 11PM EST Character Level: 1st. All classes in the PHB, Unearthed Arcana, Elemental Evil and Sword Coast Adventures are welcome except Moon Druids & Arakkoa. Stat Method: Rolled (Talk to Dave/Will) Starting Equipment/Gear: Standard PHB Gold Budget: Standard PHB We are running the sandbox version of Out of the Abyss: Rage of Demons. The campaign will run from levels 1-15. A part of the campaign will focus on the xenophobia of the Drow, this may mean tense racial RP interactions on either side of the player-DM spectrum. What we are NOT looking for in a player A "warm body" player: We aren't looking for just another body for combat. On average our sessions are about a 65/35 RP to combat ratio (Dungeon sessions notwithstanding), so if you don’t enjoy constant interaction with your group and the DM out of combat, this is not the campaign for you. New Players: We are an experienced group who have been gaming together for years. We are looking for an experienced player who is not intimidated by joining an established group. Someone capable of jumping right in and taking part in the adventure! Connection issues: We do require a webcam for each member of the group. Disconnects slow the pace of the game so a stable connection is also a requirement. Any posts just stating "I want to play": Everyone has a story to tell, so tell us about your gaming experience and the character concept(s) you want to play. What we ARE looking for in a player Interaction: RPing in character and/or using a voice is nice but not nearly as important as someone who brings constant interaction (with the DM and other players) to the table. We are looking for player who wants to be a very active and vocal participant in saving the world. Attention: If you tend get distracted, looking at your phone, other monitors, etc then this isn’t the campaign for you. The group puts a great deal of effort into their characters and the story each week so we are looking for someone who will do the same. Reliability: Our prior campaign (Princes of the Apocalypse) began in February 2015 and just ended. Meeting every Friday we canceled only 4 sessions. We make the effort to be there weekly so we want someone who will match that effort. Voice and Video: We stream via Twitch and plan to continue streaming the game. We use a Discord server for microphone, and the integrated webcam from Roll20 for video. If you have any experience with streaming, please include it in your post. Have fun!!: Last but definitely not least! D&D is about socializing, adventure, friendship and occasionally saving all of Faerun; having fun should be everyone's main goal. Characters and Players Lael Baenre (Inquisitor, Drow, Death Cleric) - Dave (22) Dave is a former EMT/FF from Illinois, Currently working on a Criminal Justice Degree [SIUE]. Dave is also the campaign assistant to Will, looking up rules, keeping notes, etc. Kaspar Ironfist (Noble, Human, Monk) - Collin (27) Collin is a lifelong gamer who enjoys playing several roles within the group. Willing to fulfill any role the group needs, Collin is constantly looking for new challenges and loves donning multiple hats. Insane Star Wars and GI Joe fan. Firble Crystalfist (Entertainer, Svirfneblin, Barbarian) - Travis (32) Travis lives in Iowa, has a penchant for playing small races and is secretly Tyrion Lannister in real life. Travis has great hair and impeccable taste in alcohol. Jin (Entertainer, Changeling, Eldritch Knight) - April (37) April lives in Virginia with Will, she is somewhat soft spoken but is always looking to expand her gaming skills. April previously played the group healer in Elemental Evil but is looking to take on a more front line role in Abyss. DM (The Universe, Impartial Third Party, Every NPC You’ll Meet) – Will (37) Will is a college student studying Education (History). Will has been gaming since Advanced D&D (2nd ed) and has spent the better part of two decades running campaigns. Feel free to message me with any questions and please put the name of your favorite novel at the end of your post.
Hi Will! I'm Joe and your game sounds like something I'd be really interested in. A bit about myself: I'm 33 and I've been gaming since I was 13 years-old.  I'm also a freelance artist (firstedition.deviantart.com)  Usually, however, I'm the DM of the games I'm in and so I've been trying to find a group so I can play.  As a DM I've run groups through numerous campaigns in a number of systems ranging from 3rd Edition D&D to White Wolf's Scion and Changeling.  I'm proud to say that I've DMed and completed the "Night Below" Underdark campaign... twice.  The groups started at level 1 and ended up around level 14 by the end and both games were really memorable.  I say this not to impress you but to let you know I have the ability and focus to handle long campaigns. I am thrilled to see that you will be twitch steaming your games - that sounds awesome.  I haven't ever done that before, but I have a functioning camera and mic, and would love to give this a try.  I will say that it would not be the first time I have recorded a game, just the first time 'streaming' one. The time slot looks fine to me.  The only concern I have is how well I'd get on with the other players.  Just looking at the variety of characters I can tell that there's a lot of creativity in the group.  Coming in as the fifth wheel on that kind of tight group dynamic might just require the right person, but I think I'm a very agreeable fellow, charming and well-spoken. If I had to pin down a character at this moment I'd have to go with an Orc of Half-Orc Battle Bard.  A savage and gruff individual who escaped slavery and now fights tyranny wherever they can.  Plus, bards are usually a good 5th in a group. Last, my favorite novel... that's a good question.  I really enjoyed Neuromancer by William Gibson, but if I had to play favorites, I'd go with Tolkien's Lord of the Rings , if just for the personal journey I undertook in finishing the books.  The most memorable part of my experience was when I was halfway through Return of the King and thought to myself "How the hell will things EVER feel like they're back to normal after this?"  And to my amazement, the book did that masterfully in the final act, crowning it off with the iconic "Well, I'm back." Thanks for reading.  Hope you give me a chance.
G'Day Will!  I want to pl- Seriously though: I'm Chris, a 22-year-old Australian. Don't worry though! The starting time lands on a cozy 11:00am Saturday morning for me. Perfect, really. My experience with DnD is probably quite shallow compared to most people, as I've only been playing for a little over two years. But hey, I made my DnD debut with 4E and endured through the 15-hour combat sessions it would throw at a party. Despite my relative lack of experience, I hope it doesn't deter you too much. I'm confident I can bring the same level of enthusiasm and interesting characterization to the table as anyone.  I've been in a few streamed games myself, unfortunately the DM of that particular group had his schedule beaten into an unrecognizable pulp by his real life responsibilities. It happens, I suppose. Regardless, I have no problems having my adorable little mug on screen. I have two characters in mind: First is Farkus Gornidas, the half-elf Warlock [Great Old One]. He comes from a merchant family and as per' family tradition he's set out to make a name for himself - gaining experience and influence as a merchant - before returning to aid in the family business. What few people know is that the Gornidas family carries a dark secret. Generations ago, one of Farkus' ancestors came into possession of a strange artifact, a puzzle box that defies logic and reason. All the youths of the family are given one week in isolation to try and solve the puzzle box; will know almost immediately if they will succeed or fail, with time being a mostly irrelevant factor. Those who succeed in opening it are shown horrifying visions and branded with alien knowledge. It's a rite that grants some members of the Gornidas family an arcane advantage in their trade, but inevitably warps their minds in terrifying ways. Second is Kettle Castiron, a reformed criminal and dwarven wizard [Abjuration]. Kettle was the member of a crew of like-minded dwarven thieves. Everyone had their specialty, and Kettle's was his ability to use magic, a craft he'd learned with great difficulty and self study after coming into possession of a tattered spellbook in his youth. During the crew's most daring they managed to steal a magical artifact from under heavy guard, it was both their biggest success and greatest mistake. The wild magics in the artifact went wild when it was removed from it's protective wards, and Kettle's team turned to him to keep it under control. He failed. The violent storm of energy killed most of his team. Only Kettle and two others survived the ordeal, and went their separate ways after incident. As for Kettle, he was plagued by guilt. It drove him to study protective magic with an obsessive vigor so that he might redeem himself in the future.   I tried to keep that brief, but I have a little extra fleshed out for each of them should the need arise.  Finally, my favorite novel: This is a difficult question, and one I am always hesitant to answer. Brandon Sanderson is my favorite author and I can say that with absolute confidence. He produces so much and I love all of it. His fans aren't kept waiting and are given a variety of fiction to devour. Despite that, my favorite book is Patrick Rothfuss' 'The Name of the Wind'. I know the sequel has its issues, and the wait time between his books in general is maddening, but 'The Name of the Wind' is just perfect, I think. I could gush as to why I think that, but that's a whole other essay even I wouldn't really want to read, so we'll leave it at that.  Thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you, Chris.
Hey there! So we'll start off with the disclaimer of I've never played 5th edition yet. Played a bunch of 3.0/3.5, dabbled in pathfinder, involved with some 13th age and got into warhammer/star wars a little bit but never managed to play either one of those yet except for 1 campaign kinda for star wars a while ago. My name's Phil, I'm 24 years old been writing and roleplaying for over half my life now but it's been a little bit since I've played in a game instead of DMing one. Last game I played, that is actually still going but having difficulty meeting up with each other, I play a female necromancer/Good Lich who is trying to use the massive destruction of the world that has happened plunging the entirety into war and chaos as a way of helping out as many people as possible. She wishes to use the dead to protect the living. The only thing I have access to right now is the handbook so that being said. I would love to play a Tiefling Warlock. I've made up an npc warlock in 3.5 before and enjoyed the flavor of them but never managed to play one myself. I would absolutely love the opportunity to play with you guys :) As for my favorite novel...Jeez I don't know. I love the redwall series and the Dragon Quartet by Marjorie Kellogg. I think I'd have to go with Redwall but Salamandastron would be my favorite of the ones I have read so far.
So, Hey there!  I've been playing Dungeons and Dragons (and other assorted RPGs) for over 25 years. I've DM'ed a lot of games, from some pretty epic Star Wars D6 games involving insane Jedi and Monkeymen smugglers to a fairly lively Werewolf: The Apocalypse game involving all manner of furry tough guys.  I'm not sure what i would play, i suffer from altoholism...I constantly want to play all the characters! I may or may not use funny voices while playing, and i really enjoy exploring my character where i can. I'm currently in the mood to play a wandering monk on a mission of familial obligation.  As for my favorite novel, I love Love LOVE a good tale of revenge, so i would have to go with "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Dumas. Can't go wrong with byzantine revenge!
Hey Will My name is Fred and I am 24 years old and am currently in a paramedics class and my time schedule fits yours. I don't have quite as much experience as the guys posting in this thread but am really enthusiastic about playing. My experience is about a year and have been in a recording for my last group before the DM had to stop running games due to personal issues. I have a couple characters in mind for the game. One will take a while to actually come into fruition unless I start off as a variant human and take a class feat. I know you don't like stuff like this but I thought it would be fun to play a character who can dual wield hand crossbows with the crossbow expert feat. This lets him run around like in the matrix or something and just shoot people. He currently does not have a name but he would probably be a soldier turned mercenary ruthless but has a moral compass in which he can't ignore evil actions and protects the weak.  my other character plan is going to have to be a high elven sorcerer who comes in contact with a dragonling as a child. She grew up with it but had to leave it behind as it had to migrate away. Before leaving the dragonling granted her with her magic abilities either by holding onto a crystalized teardrop of the dragon or the had made a blood bond where the each shared each others blood promising to meet again. depending on which one you think is more plausible will determine the type of dragon she meets up with.  I read a lot of novels so it is going to be hard for me to choose one. If I were to choose one I like the game of thrones series with the change in character perspective and the constant plot twists. A good runner up though has got to be Hannibal, it just captivates the mind and brings you into the mindset of a sociopath.
