Hello Roll20 community

New to this site and was playing around with my profile a little today. Iv'e always wanted to play games like D&D sense my high school years. Did get as far as buying AD&D 2nd edition books and rolling a few characters but never had enough people to play and didn't want to DM as a new player. Furthermore around that same time playing in metal bands and chasing girls seemed like more fun.   Now I'm married with a 5yr old step daughter and finding myself in the same boat. Wanting to play with no one else around that does. Bought the D&D 4e player handbook a few weeks ago, read though it, did some research online.... Still not exactly sure what I want to play but it seems  D&D 3.5, 4e, Next and Pathfinder seem to all be in the ballpark. I did drop by my local comic store to find they hosted D&D Encounters on Wednesdays, but the thought of playing with a bunch of hyperactive world of warcraft elitist teenagers didn't seem all that fun to me. I don't know...guess I really am an old geezer now.  Now with this site I't looks like I may have a chance to play, not sure yet but I do hope to find a group of like minded players. Might need my hand held a little but I usually pick up on things quick.  Looking forward to see how this players out!

Welcome home Jesse. You will find a wide variety of games here and that same amount of playing styles also. Look through the Looking For Games forum and listings (referred to as LFG) and see if there is any that catches your attention. If any do then drop a pm to the GM of the game and see if their schedule fits yours after that you work with the gm to make your character then off to the races with ya.
Hey, not all of us World of Warcraft Elitist Teenagers are bad!  Only the ones that literally play World of Warcraft (Star Wars: The Old Republic FTW!) are.  :-P But still, if there's a major difference in demographic between you and a group, it can sometimes be tough to fit in.  On the other hand, consider that if you were participating, you would be bringing a perspective that is unique to that game, and might have concepts and insights that they simply don't.  You could fit in as the oddball character for example. Anyway, welcome to roll20.  There are lots of friendly people here, and I'll bet you can find a game to fit your style (and if you can't, you could attempt to GM one, and probably still find helpful friendly players).  As Metroknight said, check out that LFG link up at the top of the page.  Filtering by game time is simply brilliant.  If you and I happen to end up in the same game, I'll definitely help.  I like introducing new people to the Hobby, and making sure they're having fun.  The Nerds shall inherit the Earth!

I have no problem running games for new people but at the moment I'm not actively running any live games plus I run a retro-clone like game called BFRPG not the more popular games like 3.5/4e/pathfinder.

Welcome to Roll20. As for LFG...hmmm. If LFG isn't as active as it appears, there's a lot of inactive ones. But hey, if you don't try you'll never know.
Thanks for the reply's! Maybe I'll get to campaign with soon! If only time weren't an issue!
