[LFG] Two seasoned campaigners (of Roll20) seeking adventure on Monday Evenings [CST]

Edited 1452540958
As the title suggests, a friend and I are looking for a TEXT-based game Mondays Evenings. Unfortunately the day is set in stone. Time is negotiable though, with the earliest start time we could make reliably being 6PM but the end time must absolutely be no later than 12AM, by the way that is in the Central Time Zone or -6 GMT. Neither of us use Skype or any voice over IP related software and are looking exclusively for TEXT based games because they tend to give, for us, the most immersive experience. Other forms are fine but not our cup of tea. So, I know what you’re thinking, “how, do I know more about these two”? Well, glad you asked. What I can tell you, about us is, we like a serious play style over light hearted, with a leaning towards grim shades of grey kind of characters instead of single dimensional good heroes. We try to play characters that “feel” real to us, instead of general heroic architypes. At the end of the day we like to play characters that are on the side of the Angels but complex in their outlook and approach to various situations. If given a choice we prefer Role-Playing situations exclusively to hack and slash, but in general we like about a 75% role playing to 25% combat ratio. If we join a game we try to enhance the GM’s vision by our support and details of play and the details we put into our characters. Characters that fit into the setting are important to us. We have a certain dislike for meta-gaming and rules-lawyering. both are equally odious as they waste time and energy that could be spent in much more entertaining ways. Between the two of us we have over 40 years of real world table top experience and at least a year each running games here on Roll20; as a matter of fact I’m still GMing a game. And I’m sorry, but right now neither of us are looking to start another game. We’d much prefer to find a game instead of start a new one. With our experience on Roll20 we’ve learned that one of the biggest barriers for new games to continue is a general tendency for people to disappear. We are not those kind of players. We take our obligation to a game we join seriously. If something prevents us from making a session we’ll try to let the GM and players know as far in advance as possible; but we pride ourselves on making 9 out of 10 sessions. If for some reason we should join a game and later come to the conclusion that we need to leave, be assured there will be advanced notice. We don’t want to burn bridges in this small community and understand that not all gamers play the same way as us. Parting amicably would be our preferred method of ending a game relationship. Now is there anything else? Well, of course there is. What are these two players looking for? We’re looking for a good text-based OSR (old school revival) or actual old school game, running on Mondays. First edition Dungeons and Dragons would be our preference but any solid RPG with its roots in the level based adventuring style would be great. We're not interested in joining a huge sandbox games with lots of players that run at different times ETC. That isn't the point of this posting so, please don't ask. We’re looking for an immersive experience with constantly evolving characters that lets us play characters in a story and lets us help shape that story. We understand that the GM is the final arbiter of what does and doesn’t happen in his/her game. However, we expect the rules to be followed and not arbitrarily enforced to fit the situational whim of the Game Master. Fiat is fine, just as long as it doesn’t become a hindrance to fun. That being said we’re not rules lawyers either and won’t waste a lot of time with arguing during the game. We know, from experience, that being a Game Master is hard work and we appreciate the time and effort that you put into making a world for our amusement; and we respect that work by doing our best to add to it in little ways and make the experience better for everyone involved. Detail is something we like to add our characters to make them live and world building is an important aspect of what we do in a game. When possible we like to help out the GM where we can with creatively and collectively world building. Mature content has its place in games but we feel it should be limited in scope. We absolutely have no problem with issues of Sex, Violence, Sexism, Racism, Religion, and or Sexual Orientation showing up in a games but they shouldn’t dominate it. Handled tastefully these things add spice to a game. But much like cooking with habanero peppers, a little goes a long way. Too much leaves you unable to finish and the metaphor extends to the game table. Feel free to disagree but do it in another thread please. Deal Breakers for us are pretty clear. Nothing is worse than a group of players that act like they aren’t on the same team. That being said we seriously dislike player vs player situations. We don’t mind if characters have different points of view, and argue them, but when it comes down to it players should never draw weapons on one another. That is not a game with which we’d want to take part. Excessive meta-gaming is a terrible strain on credulity for us. Nothing will get us to leave your game quicker than a rules related argument that takes up significant portion of game time. Well, if you’re stayed with us this long then you’re considering, “How do I get a hold of these two”? Just drop a line here in this thread, and gives us some details about your game and let us know how you like to be contacted. Other than that I'd like to say thanks for your time Peace --Mike and Friend

Javier F. said: I am looking for a DM and players for a unique game I am in the middle of setting up please PM me and I can give more details I'm very confused. You are looking for DM and players for a game you're setting up? You would like someone else to run a game that you're setting up? How does that work? Sorry I'm just not understanding.
I just don't think there are many text-based games floating around, Mike. Most people don't find them that immmerisive, but to each their own.
Sorry it's not a 75% roleplay to 25% combat split, it's more of a 99% roleplay to 1% combat split, but if that's no deal breaker, check me out https://app.roll20.net/forum/post/2830615/lfp-what... The tone of my game instantly adapts to the tone of my players, but I have a tendency to boot people that "I don't know" their way through role play. Your time range is 10:30am to 4:30pm by Adelaide time (if my calculations are correct). This could be doable, depending on what other offers I get.

Hello Alaizia, I think I missed your posting originally and I'm sorry about that. Something I tried to make clear, in my original post was that neither of us are interested in running anything right now; as I'm already running something and she has just finished running a game and is in no hurry to jump back into the GMs chair anytime soon. As for looking for a GM, we knew going in that it would be hard, but we're patient people. We can wait until something comes along that fits our tastes and don't mind giving it time to happen. We're both old school and know what we want when it comes to days. But thank you for the advice it is much appreciated.

Hey Jon, Sorry buddy but we're going to give a pass to the campaign buddy. As I'm sure you can understand the time frame is outside our window of availability, I'm so sorry. However I hope we can game together in the future. Peace --Mike
Still looking for something on Mondays to scratch that Role-playing itch.
Still looking for something to do on Mondays. Anyone need some players?
