Orc race

is it possible too play a orc in dnd  not a half orc and have you had anyone do it before. im having a friend tell me you cant play them because there not in the book
Most "humanoid" races, and even some non humanoid ones can be played, if you have a willing GM.  the catch is that the GM has to really be able to look over the character and make certain decisions, which the player has to go with.  I've played a Centaur in Pathfinder before with no problem.  The creatures book says it has +8 strength, which I later found was terribly overpowered, but awesome.  An Orc should similarly have stats in one of the books, and you can likely use those. But... You have to know your GM.  I can't stress that enough.  If this friend who says it's not in the book so you can't play it is running your game, then no, you can't play it.  Otherwise, don't make it until you ask.  You may be allowed, but you don't necessarily determine what that means, as there aren't set rules for it, and the GM is the one who gives the final OK.

Which edition of D&D are you playing? In Pathfinder you can play an Orc via the Advanced Race Guide while in 3.5 Orcs can be statted out without too much difficulty.  - Gauss

orcs stats on d20srd.org orc stats on D&D wiki look at 6th post in the thread at paizo.com orcs are not listed as playable in 4e but the half-orc is listed as playable.  Half-orc on the D&D4 wiki  is shown and you can always play up the orc side of him more than the human side. People who play half-elves do that all the time, they play up on side of their character's heritage more than the other side. It's portrayed in a variety of books like dragonlance series and other books series.
hmm...  i sort of want to get a group to play Pathfinder as a small all Orc tribe now.  I wonder if people would play that.....
