[Iron Kingdoms RPG] Variable EST Evenings

The Iron Kingdoms RPG uses the setting from Privateer Press' Warmachine and Hordes miniature game. It is a unique system, with statlines and combat encounters similar to the miniatures game. For those that aren't familiar, the setting has been described as "Gritty Fantasypunk", or steam power and gunpowder meet sword and sorcery. Also giant robots.

Character creation is a snap, and because you start with (almost) any combination of two careers there are a lot of options. See for yourself:

Races:
Human, Dwarf, Gobber, Iosan[Elf], Nyss[Snow Elf], Ogrun, Trollkin

Archetypes:
Gifted, Intellectual, Mighty, Skilled

Careers:
Alchemist, Arcane Mechanik, Arcanist, Aristocrat, Bounty Hunter, Cutthroat, Duelist, Explorer, Fell Caller, Field Mechanik, Gun Mage, Highwayman, Investigator, Iron Fang, Knight, Mage Hunter, Man-at-Arms, Military Officer, Pirate, Pistoleer, Priest, Ranger, Rifleman, Soldier, Sorcerer, Spy, Stormblade, Thief, Trencher, Warcaster

Long story short, I'd like to run this as a campaign for a handful of players. Looking to start with a variation of the introductory adventure, and hopefully move on to a sandbox / open world style game or a conversion of the Witchfire trilogy a published d20 campaign for the setting.

Newbies to the system or RPGs in general are welcome!

Hmm...So long as newbies are welcome and depending on when it's run, I wouldn't mind joining up. I can't buy the corebook until payday, which is in like...5 days? But I'm a quick learner, so I'd love to join if able. Especially since I was looking at this game and frowning at the fact I have nobody to play with.

Not a problem at all. If you have a concept in mind I could put it together for you and let you know what options are available to tweak. If you're not familiar with the setting and/or need more details regarding the different races, archetypes and careers just let me know.

We could do it back and forth or arrange a time to work through it together.

I could use some info, yeah. Should I just ask you over pm's?

I'd be interested in this, I'm reading through the book now and it looks like fun.

What days are you thinking? Cause I have been itching to find people to play this game.

Glad to see the interest here!

I'll be sending you all an invite to the campaign page.

Heartagun- The days we play will depend on the availability of everyone. I'm optimistic we can all find a good time to play!

I'd be interested in this as well if there is still room.

I'd be interested as well. Used to have the first core book years ago. Not sure if it's been updated, but always wanted to play this if you still have room.

The Core rulebook was updated.  http://privateerpress.com/iron-kingdoms/books/iron-kingdoms-core-rules

It more like it's Tabletop wargame now than a mod of D&D like the old one was.  It is a much smoother and engaging system overall IMO.

Ahh, sweet. Yeah the old one was pretty much low magic, steampunk DnD 3.5, but was still pretty awesome.

Yes, it's an all new system that uses the same dice rolling mechanics of the wargames Warmachine and Hordes. It is a stand alone system with all the necessary RPG elements though.

I do have a full party coming together already. If for any reason anyone in the current lineup drops out you two will be the first ones I contact.

Are you taking a Page 5 rule setting to the tone as well or are you running this as an D&D ala Eberron-esc type of game with just a different character customization setting? Oddly enough I know the setting from my days of somehow being in highschool and able to blow $500 dollars on a Magnus Merc Army.

Well, neither really. Page 5 doesn't make an appearance in the IKRPG Core Book, it really belongs in the wargame. I will also be trying to stay true to the setting and timeline so that the game won't feel like D&D in a generic fantasy/steampunk world. I feel that the IKRPG rules do a good job distancing themselves from their shoehorned d20 roots, and standing on their own as a unique system.

I would love to play. I read the IK stuff and had built a character for a campaign that never started. She was a bounty hunter by trade who used the wrist harpoons to catch her targets.

Ok, so I've had one person drop, and will be looking for 1, possibly 2, replacements.

The first and foremost thing we're looking for is similar availability. I'll paste what I posted to my current players :

What does "Variable EST Evenings" mean?
The biggest hurdle for me when it comes to playing campaigns is maintaining the same availability throughout.
Life happens and people are busy. What I would like to try is getting everyone to talk about their personal availability on a weekly or semiweekly basis.
It could be that a game never happens on the same day twice, but I'm more concerned with keeping people involved and playing than meeting a strict schedule.
Outside of gametime the best way to communicate with me directly is email, and I will always try to respond promptly!
The one commonality for me running this is that it will almost always be sometime after 5pm EST. I am not opposed to gaming during the day on a weekend, and that is open to discussion!

So far it looks like M or W evenings are best for everyone and our first session is scheduled for next Wednesday, 8/21 at 7PM EST. So if you have a similar schedule contact me via PM with your character concept!

id like to join, and sk if anyone is selling warmachine models too ;) love it all

I am currently unemployed so variable times means....everytime to me. =D If you have room that is.
