Newer Player LFG weekly 3.5e D&D campaign, almost any time/day

I just recently joined my first campaign, but I still want to play more. I do have a lot of general knowledge about the game, but as I said, I am still very new to playing the game itself. I would be willing to fill any role, but I would personally prefer to be the "stealthy" guy of your group. As I said, I am currently in another campaign that runs every Friday at 7PM EST, so I would be available for any other day of the week. My time zone is Eastern Standard Time , since I know that's entirely relevant. If you have any questions, or would be willing to let me join your campaign, please just send me a message or reply to this post.
Hey, I'm kinda a noob when it comes to 3.5e and am sorta learning as I go along and wish to join a campaign too.  I'm also in EST and would prefer to do weekends.  I currently have a Ranger and am actually making a Cleric at the time of posting.  Maybe if we find a DM, we could be in the same group or something :D
Gonna bump this once.

Hey guys! I have some experience with 3.5e and am also EST. I would be interested in DM'ing if we can get a group together. If you are looking for a more experienced DM then I would happily join as a player (and a Psion!). My only quirk is that it would have to be Sunday (at least as of September). Let me know if I fit the bill! EDIT: I am available most times/days until September. (school)
I just started playing but I would love to play right now
I would be very interested in playing some 3.5e. I got my start in d&d on 3.5! I live in Central Time zone and am available almost every day of the week, and almost every time of day...until schools starts but i dont run any later than 3. I am partial to playing the Tank/Fighter character so it would compliment your sneak well. ;)
I am in PST too! And newer myself, but I'd love to join too if there is a willing DM and room :)  Also, welcome to the world of D&D!

Hi everyone! I am your *new*, humble DM and by my count we have 6 interested players. Seeing as we are all fairly new, this would be a learning experience for us all. I am going to start up a campaign here soon, but I first want to get a sense of what you guys want. Do you want the experience to stick to the norm of D&D or do you want it more open ended? Keep in mind that although I do have experience, this would be my first time DMing and on Roll20. If you want it to be strictly D&D, I would need some time to create the maps/environments. If you want it to be more open ended then I could describe the area and you could role play from that. Another thing, would you prefer to use Skype for communications, Google Hangout, or is the built-in voice chat good enough? So let me know and I guess you can create your characters for now and have them ready.  EDIT: I checked with my IRL group and we have been playing D&D 4e. If you want to play 3.5e I am perfectly fine with that (I assume some knowledge is transferable), but I also assume it would be easier if I stick to 4e. Again, let me know what you think! Cheers :)
Can we use any of the 3.5 books?  I would suggest a mix of maps and environments with open ended if things go in a direction that is not suspected! *So we can avoid linear storytelling and have things to to just in case we F up the main plot* And I have skype (septembersister), and am not too aware of google hangout and never have used the roll 20 system yet. However I'm willing to use any of them if needed.  Is there anyway we may communicate? For more questions of the story or campaign?

Sure you can use any 3.5 books. Post here with class and race just so I can see what we have. I doubt I will disallow anyone's choices. I do plan on having extra things happen just to spice up the adventure. Just to be sure I understand what you are saying, you want to stick to the main plot, but still let things flow? For example: the super important story item breaks, so I change what occurs next? My Skype name is "lasor." (period at the end) if you want to contact me there. Google Hangout works fairly well; I have used it in the past, but I do not know how good the built-in system is. Skype seems to be the way to go if everyone has that. If you have anymore questions, you can post them here and I should get an email telling me you did, or just send me a PM if you want. EDIT: I also plan on having everyone roll their stats on our first meeting. This should give us time to get to know each other and our characters better.
Added you on skype. And yes, I agree with your example...impromptu storytelling should cover any 'goofing' of the main story! And I'll get to reading all the 3.5 classes (I only know pathfinder classes off the top of my head) and races and I'll get back to you!
I don't have any experience with 4e at all, but I would be willing to learn as long as you don't mind me being a bit slow at it at first. As for the story, I wouldn't mind a little bit of both. Like Zara said, it's awesome to have plots written out for you, but if we f**k it up, we want to be able to go off and do something else. Although I really hope I don't end up breaking one of your quests.. Also, if it's alright with you Mic P., I was hoping to allow all alignments, just for the sake of entertainment and diversity. I really like to see what characters people come up with, and how they use their character's personality to influence how they act.. But, since as you said most of us are all rather new, it could be a little taxing, and it wouldn't really bother me too much if we stick to non-chaotic/evil characters. If at all possible, I would like to play a Xeph Soulknife, but that may change depending on what everyone else wants roll. My Skype is robertpain3, and I figure now would be a good time to see when everyone is available.. As I said in my opening post, I can do any day of the week except Friday, so it's really up to you guys more than anything.

Ok so story-wise, a mix of both seems good. It would allow me to flex my imagination and hopefully come up with some good stuff. I am fine with people picking their own alignment as long as they stick to it and act it out. Chaotic/evil characters are rather hard to play (I know from IRL), so if people could stray away from those that would make things a little easier. Your choice of class and race seems interesting so go ahead.  Concerning these choices, I suggest one person be a Healer of some sort. I do not want anyone losing their character too soon or the party wiping because of some bad rolls. I can do almost any time/day except Friday until September. Once school starts up again, Sunday would probably be best, but I might be able to do some other times. EDIT: Try not to multiclass. I find it adds unnecessary complexity and weakens your character.
I will be the healer...by being the 'healer' class...picking my race...
I will be an Aasimar Healer.

So I have been reading up on the 3.5e ruleset and I noticed that a lot about the characters depends on their stats (str, dex, etc.). As this is the case, use the 25 point buy system: each stat starts at 8, increasing from 9 to 14 requires 1 point each, increase from 15 to 16 requires 2 points each, increasing from 17 to 18 requires 3 points each. From there you should be able to pick skills and feats appropriate for your character. I am planning on having our first meeting this coming Sunday if that works for everyone. If you all could give me a time that works best (with your time zone, I am EST), that would be great! I am going to start working on the campaign as soon as I can, but the general idea for the start is none of you know each other and you all meet for the first time at a random truck stop -- err, I mean tavern :P
Uhm, I'm pretty sure it's 1 point from 9-14, 2 for 15-16, and 3 for 17-18, at least for standard point buy. Sunday works for me, and I can't wait to see how everything goes. :)
You would be correct! I edited my initial mistake to reflect the correct version
Sunday works for me as well!

Alright, just wanted to make sure. I already completed my character.. Where should I post the sheet? *Edit* I was wondering, Mic, would it be alright if I was an Azer Soulknife? Since I won't be multiclassing at your suggestion, and that was why I picked Xeph in the first place, I decided I wanted to choose a different race, and I just wanted to see what would be acceptable.
You can post the sheet here, so I will have a copy for reference.  As for being an Azer, as long as it is an "official" race. If you could post a link as to where you found it, I will check it out. If it is a homebrew race, then I reserve the right to say no as it might have unwanted effects. But if everything seems fine, then you are free to pick that class.
They are an official 3.5e race, although a little odd.. They're basically fire dwarves from an elemental plane. Here's a link to the wiki page: <a href="http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Azers_%28Race%29" rel="nofollow">http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Azers_%28Race%29</a>
Wow, that's a strong race!
I am not so sure they are official. The stat bonuses are too much and everywhere I found them it says "Homebrew." The link you posted has "open game content" and "open game license," which makes it sound like a mod. Unfortunately, I will have to say no. From what I found on the official sight for Soulknives, Xeph is actually the most appropriate race. I found this:&nbsp; <a href="http://www.pathguy.com/cg35.htm" rel="nofollow">http://www.pathguy.com/cg35.htm</a> &nbsp;if anyone needs help creating a character. You just have to follow the red arrows. Some downsides are that not everything is automated, which means you will have to check what bonuses you get and such (some info near the top). And for inventory, you just pick items, there is no starting gold, so you would need to find that out. Also, I have seen other people using&nbsp; <a href="http://www.myth-weavers.com/" rel="nofollow">http://www.myth-weavers.com/</a> &nbsp;to make character sheets. It seems good and it has everything you would need. It is fully modifiable from your computer so there is no need to print it out; just type in the numbers, spells, items, etc. and you should be good to go.

If you guys still have space available I would like to join in. I'm Eastern time and am available most days in the afternoon to evening. I believe Skype is probably easiest, but if you want better audio and aren't concerned about webcams then Raidcall is also a decent, free option. Even if not I'll offer some knowledge that will hopefully help out a bit after skimming these posts. The reason why that one race seemed so strong is likely because it's either homebrew, has a level adjustment, or both. I would highly recommend avoiding any races with level adjustment unless you're quite familiar with the rules concerning it in the current edition you are using because it can add some serious challenge curves to the game. A list of official "core" classes and races along with their specifics can be found here: <a href="http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Races" rel="nofollow">http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Races</a> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; ---&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <a href="http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Classes" rel="nofollow">http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/SRD:Classes</a> When it comes to the stats, you can either just roll and go with it, or opt for a point buy. 28 point buy is generally considered standard for 3.5 but of course you can choose any amount you see fit. Here's a calculator to help with the math a bit: <a href="http://tools.digitalightbulb.com/pbcalc.html" rel="nofollow">http://tools.digitalightbulb.com/pbcalc.html</a> Character sheets are available fully editable on Myth-Weavers as your DM previously mentioned, but here is a tool that can assist in the process a bit by explaining each of the steps in a little more detail and doing some the calculations for you, although some of the specifics such as religion might not necessarily be in line with the setting you're using: <a href="http://dnd3rd.sourceforge.net/" rel="nofollow">http://dnd3rd.sourceforge.net/</a> Finally, a side note to the person who wanted to be a healer. Clerics in D&amp;D are very flexible, mostly because Divine Magic isn't affected by armor penalties, be sure to remember that. You don't have to be only a "healer" and actually probably should avoid that as you would be squandering your potential. They can be equally as combat oriented as a fighter or equally as casting oriented as a wizard depending on the stats, feats, skills, and equipment you choose while still possessing the ability to keep a party alive.&nbsp; Oh, if you haven't chosen a setting/book yet allow me to recommend Forgotten Realms and Dragonlance although I'm sure they're all equally as good.

LJ I am still waiting for your Skype add. As to maps, if the maps are easy enough to set up, then I will try making them, otherwise I can hopefully give a good enough description or some rought sketch. Elliot sure you can join and thanks for the quality advice. If you have some more experience than the rest of us, that would be fantastic; we could always use some extra help. I was going to look up some books tonight so thanks for the recommendations! EDIT: I do not want to make our group any bigger. 5 players seems optimal and beyond that starts becoming too hard to handle. The 5 players are Zara, Robert, LJ, Elliot, and Alex. I have a friend that might join later on, but we will see if that works out. Here is the link for the campaign (please let me know if it works!):&nbsp; <a href="https://app.roll20.net/campaigns/details/183568/d-and-d-3-dot-5e-for-newer-players" rel="nofollow">https://app.roll20.net/campaigns/details/183568/d-and-d-3-dot-5e-for-newer-players</a>
I'm getting "Not Authorized" I'm guessing you'll need to invite us so we can get in?

I don't have any experience with roleplaying beyond several false starts, which is why I knew of a lot of character creation tidbits. :) I am however quite familiar with D&amp;D itself from playing many of the games like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Eye of the Beholder, and Neverwinter Nights over the years which is why I have a personal preference for 3.5. The campaign is working fine as far as I can tell, I'm listed in it and can join the table so yeah. I'll work on throwing together a few characters and running them by you. Also added you on Skype just cause.
Also, I just realized Mic.. Anyone that clicks that link will be able to join the game. So maybe you should PM it to the 2 others who aren't in yet? Which are LJ and Alex, I think.
Had not realized this thread was public lol. Thanks for the heads up!
In regards to how much map making and such you want to deal with my suggestion is you attempt to do a full overworld map if possible, in as little or as much detail as you like, just so people can get a grasp on the size of the world and where everything is easier. After that, major encounters like dungeons should probably be gridded, with doors and rooms and major props etc. but nothing in excessive detail, just enough so we can move through it without pausing and asking for confirmation every round. Then minor encounters like quick battles or locations we're moving through would just be done on the fly through descriptions and basic sketches if anyone has specific questions.
