Regarding attack of opportunity

Not sure if this is the right thread for it but here goes I'm right next to my ally as they're attacked in melee, does the attacker provoke an attack from me?
Depends on which game and rule set you are playing^^ In dnd 3.5 for example you only provoke opportunity attacks by Moving into fields that are  threatened by an enemy or you do some actions in such a field. like casting a spell.
How would it be in pathfinder? Cuz the Bodyguard feat says that "When an adjacent ally is attacked, you may use an  AC . You may not use the  aid another  action to improve your ally’s attack roll  with this attack." So I figured that meant that when an ally is attacked, you get an attack of opportunity

Whoops, my apologies!
@Antonio - yes, that means that there action provokes an AoO. basically means you use up one of your attack of opportunity, so you have to have them available. it does not give you a 'free' attack, just triggers one if you have one available. normally you would not get an attack of opportunity from such an attack vs an ally, but your feat adds another trigger condition for your character. @Hayn - gottta be careful there - AoO's are triggered by various actions, but they do NOT trigger on a target moving into a square you threaten. Common mistake, even from those who know how it works. the accurate wording (put here for those who might get confused by above statement) is that moving OUT of a threatened square triggers an AoE (and to further clarify, before anyone asks, any one action can trigger only one AoE from an individual character, so a target moving through three of your threatened squares only provokes one AoE from you - same target can provoke additional AoO's if they do so with more than one move, or with two separate actions that provoke such.) this is why reach weapons get more AoO's than regular melee weapons, because once you're in a threatened square, you generally must move out of that threatened square to reach the target. its why Ogres are such a bitch. all that reach, all those AoO's to deal with.
Mmkay, I getcha! Thanks!

I love the Bodyguard feat. Combine it with the Helpful Trait (halfling) for +4 AC boost to your allies.  One of my cleric builds uses a longspear, stands behind the tank and uses Helpful to prevent damage. :) - Gauss
