Corey - I am interested in playing your campaign. It sounds fun. The character I am considering would be a Map Thief, whose interest (obsession?) is focused on maps and the mysteries they contain. He actually owns his own antiquities shop, and his adventures supply his business while satisfying his deep intellectual curiosity. The Map Thief Edmund Mercator Class: Any of several will do (Charlatan Rogue or Bard probably work best) Character Concept An esteemed and respectable antiquarian map dealer, Mr. Mercator operates a tiny shop in the old city of [Campaign-City-Name]. His ability to locate and identify the “lost maps” of the ancient Explorers has earned him renown among the tight-knit cartographer community. A lover of map lore and the mysteries they reveal, Mercator has even written books on the history of map-making. By presenting a bookish, clumsy affectation, the bespectacled Smiley would have you believe that he never leaves the safety of his musty office, or his ‘friends,’ the historical tomes and atlases that line its walls. Mr. Mercator’s business is an illusion, however. While his keen intelligence and love of maps are genuine (along with his eccentric personality), he works closely with an accomplished cracksman --his friend [named So-and-So]-- to steal valuable antiquities. All his maps are the spoils of daring heists from libraries and art galleries, or from private collections around the world. Mercator has a true affection for maps and a hunger to acquire them. For him, they provide insight into valuable things lost to the passage of time, while serving as practical tools to navigate the world.
