The Wilds Exchange <>

The usual furious hammering of Barney Greathall's smith has ceased for a day. Instead, there is the turning of pages and the scratching of pen on paper, as Illoa and the smith pour over old books and scrolls, taking notes of an extremely technical nature. “Look,” she says, “Here it speaks of the black iron. It speaks of the heat needed and of the tempering.” “Aye,” the burly man replies, making some marks on a parchment already full of detailed figures and drawings. “You know,” he continues, “another adventurer was here yesterday asking similar questions. His name was Schnell and he plans to forge a shield. I wonder if you couldn't work together with him and the others to make figuring out these formulas easier?” Illoa looks up with her typical frown. “Hmmmmm. Yes. We'd need a place, a small place to post what we are researching, what materials we have or need, what we have for sale or trade, and so forth.” Glancing around, her eyes fall on an unused corner of the smithy. “Oh no you don't!” Barney warns, catching her train of thought. “But great smith-of-smiths, we adventurers are your best customers! Plus, I'll make sure we pay you for the courtesy.” Reluctantly the burly man agrees, and Illoa departs on a furniture shopping trip. <<I thought it might be a fun idea to have a forum thread is for posting your research plans, items for trade or available to craft, materials you need or want, etc....>> <<Illoa spends 3 G on a desk, a notice board, and some iron for nails she forges herself. She also gives Barney 5 G as an initial payment for the space.>>

Illoa frowns. "Hmmm. I suppose my offer to sell mithril bars to you, Turki, will be off the table then too. Barney will pay just as well for them."
"Illoa, please do not be so hasty. You are quite welcome to purchase my Iron Wood from me if you desire. It was my understanding that this private exchange was set up to help us fellows who brave the wilds and necessarily need special items if we hope to survive. This is not about greed (believe it or not), but simply my wish not to be pitted in a price war with another adventurer. I am not a merchant, nor do I wish to become one. I sell these items as a courtesy, and only seek to recover a health potion for the troubles I went to get the item. If this item becomes generally available in town for some price I will gladly sell it for less. "And despite my better instincts you have seen me in the past be...ugh...generous to our fellow brethen here. I sold the Orc's blessing sword to Yulex's successor for a very reasonable price of 200 gold. I gave the book of knowledge to our poor deceased Bladesong. You have witnessed this...again I can't believe my life has led me to this....kindness again and again. And I do this because these lands are so deadly, as we all have. "But if this market turns into a place of trying to screw our fellow adventurers on price for items of necessity, or of trying to initiate a price war between two individuals, I can just as easily get that experience by returning to the flour business, or doing quests for Lord Ivanson. So I ask you Illoa to reconsider your withdrawal of your offer. That mithril is necessary to my survival on these lands. I cannot wear the plate armor that you do so stealth is essential for my very survival. Not to mention that I have already sent the gold to your room, and made room in my secret 'inventory' for those items."
50 gold per ironwood for 2 is fine with me I'm not going to work with them any time soon

"Turki, there is no war going on here. When there is, you will know by the broken bodies, severed heads, and pools of blood. The ironroot is just as necessary to Alux's survival as the mithril is to yours. The wrongness comes not from the price, but from the 'taking off of the table' as you put it. What we do here . . . will be . . . remembered." Illoa's voice trails off as she clearly struggles to explain concepts that she has no vocabulary for. Then a booming voice echoes down, "Behold! I am Adamius Smithius, god of economics! I shall explain to you how free markets must allow prices to find their equilibrium, balancing between supply and demand!" The booming voice goes on an hour long lecture with many power point slides that makes everyone leave the room in extreme boredom. Turki finds that Illoa left a sack with the 2 mithril bars on the table when she walked out.
"Yes, Turki, I did not mean to offend you. I really was completely unaware of the value of the ironwood and simply wanted to get a second offer before accepting my fate at the first. For all I knew, I could get the ironwood for 25gp in town. I would gladly pay 50gp per piece as that seems to be the going rate, however I am in need of 2."
Orma notices the 2 logs he is sitting on are of ironwood quality. He stands up leaves a sign on them crudely stating "50 gp per unit log ironwood thing". He then takes out his sketchbook and continues to sketch several ships and seagulls. He hears a rumbling and the telltale sound of a mysterious diety explaining market value.
"Ah no harm, then. How about this then. The Iron Ingots are being sold for 35 gold in town by the Kobolds. Why don't we all agree to sell the Iron Wood for the same price then. That would be 35 gold per...uh...log. Would that be acceptable to all? And I will gladly sell my single iron wood to whoever would like it. I would suggest you buy it from Orma first since he has two, and I think he probably needs more equipment than I do at the time. "Illoa are you still looking for Iron Wood? Would you like to purchase this one?"
"You got a deal Orma. 100 gp for those 2 ironwood...things." Alux tosses you a sack of gold, interested to see which would hit the dirt, the gold or the sketchbook.

Orma blinks, the bag hits the dirt. Orma quickly puts his pen in his mouth and casts a small lightning lure, flinging up the bag into the air where it lands in his lap. Orma smiles, gives his thanks and offers Alux a drink. "I'd also offer you first pick of any mask I make, for free of course. I'll be learning the craft from Dob next week."

Alux winces as the bag of gold hits the dirt. "Mask? Why would I ever cover up this handsome face?" He picks up the ironwood and walks away with a wink.
Orma appears visibly disappointed and continues sketching, he ponders an appropriate nicety to give Alux and settles on a sketch with full paints and all. "I know Turqui told me that i should be a better negotiator with goods and services, but he never mentioned gifts." Orma heads to the inn to retrieve his paints with a smile on his face.
Illoa leaves the vial of giant blood for Azazel and 35G for Turki for their ironwood logs.
"Very good, I will assume that our previous deal still stands regarding the Mithril. I will wait for the bars, the money has been sent to your room at the Inn."
Turki also remarks that the great God of Adam Smith of Economics should discuss these theories in detail with the gods of Sociology. Suddenly that god appears and begins argument with Adam Smith, and the two discuss the differences between markets and communal groups. Turki takes his mithril bars and goes back towards the inn.
In the sack with the mithril bars Turki finds a hastily scribbled note: "Be careful. Our mutual 'friend' has earned himself a new title: Lord of Fort Boulderbreaker. Yes. Believe it. You rid us of one pest only to see another bigger pest take his place. I still do not know what he really wants with all of us, but the bloody coins flow freely. He wants to finalize an alliance with the giants. His relationship with the Empire is not clear, but either way, this place is getting less and less safe. Once Bollrim is dead I will seek a place of refuge for all of us. Storm clouds gather on the mountain. Burn this note."

A wild-eyed, long-bearded prophet emerges from the Wilds of Udrus (TM) and joins the gods of sociology in viciously debunking Smithius's so-called economics. In the process of proving the free market a lie, it is revealed that Smithius is actually an incarnation of the Archdevil Asmodeous. The prophet and the gods of sociology fight together to banish the devil back to the Nine Hells. The prophet's name is Marxius Karellius.

As a psych major with a sociology minor this tickles my funnybone As Orma the confusion intensifies
Orma has his armor resized by Illoa, he hands her 375 gold in exchange for the service. He is no longer his usual cheery self and has a sullen look regarding the events of his most recent outing
A new note is scrawled on the crowded board: "My fellow adventurers, from our victory over the Green Dragon, we recovered two poison sacks from its corpse. We have no idea what use they would be, but our instincts stated that they may be useful in crafting. I am holding them for our group of adventurers: Brenna, Alux, Horven, Naomi, and myself. If you need them let me know and we will work out a deal to compensate the group." "Also how do you like my new cape? Do you think a fan would go with it?"
A pristine piece of paper with cursive writing is shown on the wall. " It's come to my attention that magic weapons are useful. My of my fellow adventurers have one and I feel the need to gather one of my own. As it stands I have none of the materials that I need for making my lance, I need a gem in which its cost is equivalent to 100 gold pieces, I need three black iron pieces and I would also need one piece of Iron Wood. These are items that are needed however, I also have items for sale. I have received a magical item known as the 'Wind Fan' It's abilities are limited to shooting out a strong gust that can be maneuvered. It seems good for a game of keep away, but my eyes are set on charging into battle instead. For my later plans, I have come to the decision that I will probably end up selling my Figurine of Wondrous Power once my griffon hatches; but that is for the prices to decide. " ~ Naomi Lanzenreiter of House Crown
Another scradly note is attached to the bottom of Naomi's note: Naomi, I believe that the trade agreement with the Kobolds means that you can buy black iron ingots for 35 gold in town from the local market. -T
Orma finds Horven, and tosses a sparkling instrument to him. "It's a Mac-Fuirmidh cittern its super magical and full of bardy goodness, I found it in a junk pile and I think you should have it.". He then takes a seat and smiles "to celebrate it you should compose a song of my foolishness and the dark dwarven dungeons that we braved."
Horven catches it deftly, and examines it with interest. "For free, my good man? I'm honored! Do you know what sort of magic it is or is it just your generic shiny, beautiful, incredibly sexy musical relic?" He takes a bow. "And of course I'd be pleased to compose the Ballad of the Ghost King's Hold. I've already started, but I'm a bit stuck. Can't find anything that rhymes with 'no-good zombie'."

Alux shouts for all to hear, "I've heard whispers from the Gods of Udrus saying that someone here has been holding out on me. I have heard that someone is in possession of a shambling mound's root. I would like this person to come forward and make an offer! Unless of course they plan to make use of it. Otherwise, I will find out! And demand Thor zap you in the behind!"
Orma laughs "its full of magic <almost as if once a day you can use it to cast one of the following spells Fly, Invisibility, Levitate, protection from good and evil, barkskin, cure wounds, and fog cloud using your spell saves dc. It takes an action and you can cast from the spells next dawn.> and its incredibly sexy". He then turns to Alux "I have said root and its all yours as well," he tosses a shambling mound taproot to him.
Alux's eyes go wide. "Finally! What is your price? And don't say nothing."
Orma shrugs and says "is there a way I can say nothing and not say nothing? Oh I know." Orma takes the root and places it on a barrel near him "good thing I'm not paying attention to this taproot" He stretches, "anyone could take it with my low level of vigilance." He then yawns and states "If someone takes it I would be none the wiser"
Azazel jokingly takes the root then later gives it to Alux after a quick chase :P
haha
Brenna sits at a table in the tavern, waving over adventurers and merchants as she takes a break from healing injured townsfolk. "Do any of you have tendons from a bulette, or some leather from a tought beast (e.g. CR5 Leather)?
Turki steps forward, "Brenna I do not have your leather. But I can tell you that Illoa and I have completed our research into the Dragon Scale Armor. Now that is left is to assemble it." <<Matt the research should be completed by now. I have scales for enough armor for 2. What other materials is needed to assemble the Scale Armor?>>
Orma enters the bar cheerfully. "Brenna I don't know your stance on presents but since my completion of your shrine I figured I could impart some money for drink and these gauntlets as a celebratory gesture." He slide gauntlets of Ogre power across the table, they appear to have a rust colored sheen and an aura of gnoll magic about them. (Once a day you can bonus action 1d4 + strength mod bite attack). "They're not as menacing as they look I promise, don't worry yourself on payment simply let me know if you find any spell scrolls (4th level) or spectator eyes." He then walks outside and leds her to a modestly built shrine that had been placed in the gardens.
Brenna gleefully clasps Orma's hands and thanks him profusely. "Orma! Thank you so much for this gift! I will use it wisely. You've done so much already, what with helping me make the shrine and now this! I've been busy with helping out the townsfolk and I haven't found any ways to grant my wish... but this gift has made all this work worth it! Of course I'll make sure to keep an eye out for those scrolls and eyes. Thank you, and may Morena bless you." Brenna goes and buys drinks for the adventurers drinking at the table and happily plops herself down to drink to Orma's health. "Ah, Turki! It's good to hear you're safe! I'm glad you've still been working on my armour amidst all this chaos. What of Illoa? She's alright, right? I don't know if any other adventurers were injured in the sacking of Udro. Please tell them to head over to Morena's Shrine, it's at the northernmost part of Udro. I'll be taking care of townsfolk but I'll tend to their wounds there. I can heal them quicker with Morena watching over. Now, enough talking. Let's drink!"
